I don't mean to start any political debates, but I've been staring at the polling data for about a week now, and I'm predicting a slim Romney win (279-259).

I'd say the odds of that happening again are pretty slim, but it's certainly a possibility. Anything that can bring about election reform, I'm fine with.

In non-election related news, I'm finally getting to dig into Pax Romana by Jonathan Hickman. My roommate, who is a very casual comic reader, mostly borrowing from me, asked me if I'd ever read it. I said "how do you know about Pax Romana?!?" For whatever reason, he's got a copy of it. And being at work at six this morning for no reason but to open the doors for voters (my work is a polling place today...fun) means that I've got a few hours to do nothing. Well, more nothing than I usually do at work.

I'm only through the first issue, but holy crap. This is fascinating stuff. It's hard to believe that this is only his second comic; it's far from the safe kind of work that most people might do to get their start. It'll take a bit for me to get through the rest, because it's an extremely dense read, but I look forward to the rest of it.

In Robbie's defense, unseating an incumbent is a rare event. Last time it happened was 20 years ago, and the time before that was 1980. Both were circumstances in which the incumbent was doomed from the start.

Yeah, but 20 years ago is only 5 elections. And only two of those were against incumbents. I think the overall rate is somewhere around 70%, which is high, but hardly a lock.

Yes, pretty much, looking back at the past Presidents. I hear that in the US it's seen very much as a political failure for a Presidency to not last into its second term.
