I agree. If Valiant gets any Gold Key characters I would prefer Solar & Magnus. But at this point the relaunch has been so good I don't even miss those two guys!

Does anyone recommend Vol II & Vol III from the Acclaim relaunch of Shadowman?

I don't have the full run of both volumes, but the issues I do have I absolutely love. I'd recommend them. I personally enjoy them more than the original volume of Shadowman.

    Let d speculation begin.
I think they let it slip in one of the interviews that Shadowman would be a legacy. And the main character will be Jack Boniface so, assuming we can put those two things together (not always a given), that would make Josiah Jack's father. Makes sense since Jack is mixed and the mother was white.

God, November feels like an eternity away and it's my birthday month, so Shadowman will be a nice birthday present to me from Valiant. I've looked over this preview 4 or 5 times already and every time I do I get more and more excited, this book actually has me more excited than X-O #1 did upon Valiant's launch last Spring which is funny because I was actually really excited for X-O #1 and my anticipation has been on overdrive for Shadowman. The book just looks like it will be so cool!

And like I've been saying all along........PLEASE don't bring in any Gold Key characters.......just please....

I gave it 4.5/5 stars, fantastic art and a lot of great set up for a first issue.

    Highly recommend.

It looks good. I can't say I'm only familiar with Shadowman from that videogame of over a decade ago.

I'm tempted to give this book a try, even though CBR only gave this issue a 2 out of 5. As someone not overly familiar with the comic version of Shadowman is this series easily accessible or should I go back and reread some older Shadowman runs?

The entire VALIANT relaunch is a complete, ground level, new reader friendly entry point. They are incorporating elements from the original and later Acclaim (video game related) runs, but no need to read those unless you want to be in on some of the Easter eggs.

Yeah but if it's not Marvel or DC which CBR grades on a curve anyway you can't take their rating on 90% of indie stuff that isn't Walking Dead too straight up.
The book is easily a 4 out of 5.

I completely agree. The 2 star review was madness. This book is a solid four star book by most people's reckoning. It really feels like the beginning of something fantastic, a lot like the earliest issues of Starman. It's honestly mostly setup, but it's great and we even get cool action regardless. And with issue two both likely to dig a bit deeper into the mythology AND coming out next week, you should totally give it a shot! Greatness lies ahead!
Looking for artists, know I won't find any. That blows.

I'll be one of the few who gives it a 2.5-3 out of 5. The dialogue was kind of bad in certain spots, and I didn't think the issue flowed well. I'd give it 3 stars, though, because of the art and because there's a lot of good set-up. Also, I appreciate the ethnic diversity in the book.

The preview for issue 2 looks far better, dialogue-wise. I'm hoping it's a sign of things to come, and that the first issue simply came off a little rough.

At the moment, this is how I rank Valiant's books, from favorite to least favorite:

    1. Archer & Armstrong
    2. X-O Manowar
    3. Bloodshot
    4. Harbinger
    5. Shadowman

If Shadowman #2 turns out to be as good as the preview, I'll probably rank Shadowman over Harbinger.

Harbinger is also the title that's at the bottom of my list.

The gap between #4 and #5 would be big but it's closing. Just as it was getting better though they pull that bank heist in the last issue which just doesn't sit well with me which we discussed in the Harbinger #6 thread.
