I love her.
The end.
Met her a few months ago.
She's lovely.
Thanks for the insights into the creative process on this book! It is easily (without anything even close) the best looking book on the stands each month, and my most anticipated comic every time it is in my stack.
"While the artist obviously appreciates the finer aspects of modern animated comedy, she finds herself more influenced by films and video games when it comes to creating the world of "Saga." "I love sci-fi and fantasy, and while I've tried not to draw too heavily from anything else for 'Saga,' I'm influenced by movies like 'Labyrinth' and 'Akira,' and video games like the 'Final Fantasy' series.'"
I hope that people who make films and video games take notice and start drawing influence from her a bit more. I'd love to see stuff like this on the big screen. I never have.
"I suck at coming up with vehicle designs, for one thing. Usually I just try to make it shaped like something organic, like a skull or a seed or a sea creature. It's a fun exercise, though. Generally, I try to stay open-minded to whatever the story presents!"
That is one of the things that sets this book apart visually. Her organic tech (seed pod heli-ships/tree shaped rockets) is so sumptuous and unique. It makes my imagination explode!
Obviously I'm a big fan.
I love that comic! One of the reasons I registered here^^
Great series! One of the best books on the stands! Comics like this have filled the gap left by crappy DC and Marvel books!
READ HYPERACTIVE COMICS ON THE DUCK!!
So far Saga has been fun and dark and absolutely brilliant. The art of Fiona Staples has given the book such vivid life. Every cover she draws is just so damn beautiful.
I read the first issue and it was a good start but the story didn't quite grab me, but I'll definitely check out the trades for her artwork. She's amazing!
SO GOOD
SO SO SO GOOD
Star Wars, but the NC-17 Version
SO SO SO SO SO GOOD
Fiona Staples's art has fit Brian Vaughn's writing style like a glove. It has been a big part of why Saga has become one of my favorite Independent comics since Y: The Last Man. I find it remarkable that so much of the unique and sometimes bizarre designs of Saga came from Vaughn's childhood imagination. He must have had quite a childhood.
She seems to imply that Saga has plenty of material for years to come. I hope it becomes Vaughn's version of the Walking Dead, a comic that transcends traditional comics and becomes something greater. It's only had 6 issues so far. There's so much to explore and I look forward to seeing where it goes.

I couldn't agree more with everything you said, but hasn't Vaughn already had a couple of transcendent turns as a comic writer? I mean, between Y: The Last Man, and Ex Machina, It seems to me like Saga is his triumphant return rather than his chance to leave his mark.
BKV has said in interviews that he hopes "Saga" will be longer than Y:tLM and Ex Machina combined. I am so down for that.
Especially if Fiona keeps drawing them til the end. Hopefully, by the time that happens, I'll be successful enough myself to convince her to illustrate one of my own projects...
