Default Would you date a non-reader?

Or marry them? I saw this on another forum and I wanted to know what you guys think.

Considering that there's about one girl for 100 guys, if all guys only restricted themselves to girl readers, that'd leave a lot of very frustrated guys. So in the interest of realism one has to make concessions.

Or wait, are we talking comics or just reading in general (as in, including books)?

Ah well, in that case the female readership is quite a bit higher, probably even the majority, so the aforementioned consideration becomes irrelevant.

I'd probably find it difficult to find anything in common with a girl who didn't read at all. Of course, it's not impossible to have chemistry without common interests, but I do think it's a longshot. I would date somebody who didn't read at all, and I would marry them too, if the chemistry was in place.

Haha, how weird, i found myself in a situation like that sooner this year.

Well it didn't work but to answer the thread question, yes i would. (i did)

Now, the reason why this person doesn't read much, or at all, is of course very important. If it's because she or he has not interest whatsoever in any form of cultural activity, yeah, it's a deal-breaker for me.

But let's keep something in mind here, the fact that a person doesn't read much doesn't mean that he or she is a bonehead. And i would rather be with someone who doesn't spend too much time reading than with someone who would call Stephenie Meyer a genius.

Cause yeah, there is books....and there is books.

Depends entirely on how anti-reading they were. I've actually heard someone refer to their 3-year-old daughter starting to read as, "How lame is that?" Not only would I not date someone like that, but I could barely tolerate sitting next to this person. However, I could certainly tolerate being with someone who simply found reading to be a boring activity.

Dating an extreme bookworm would be a chore, as well.

I married a lady of outstanding quality, stupendous beauty and sterling character, who however didn't read much when we first met. I'd like to think that it's my reading habits that prompted her to pick up the vice, and she now reads twice as many books as I do!!!
    Reading is catching.

I think it depends on why they are not readers. Some people are just not into it. They have other passions and hobbies but reading recreationally is just not one of them. Unless they are illiterate I am sure they do read once in awhile, even if it is just a manual or a newspaper or whatever. If that is the case, then if their other interests are compatible with mine, then sure I'd date them.

If they are the kind of person who take pride in the fact that they don't read and looks down on people who do, then I have no reason to associate with them in any capacity.

One must always endeavor to have high standards. So no.
I would like to say for the record that this is the FIRST TIME I've withheld dong when someone was so desperately asking for some.

High standards? It's not like saying I only date millionaires.
