Space is disease and danger wrapped in silence and darkness.
I noticed in this month's DC and Marvel's solicits and their respective "refreshing" of their key franchises that Marvel has moved new creators around to stretch their wings, provide a fresh perspective, etc. DC, on the other hand, has Marvel's 1990's crowd (Tom DeFalco, Scott Lobdell, Bob Harras, Jim Lee) taking on their characters. A year out, the new version of many of their characters don't seem a marked improvement over their predecessors and they all lack the rich published history that readers and creators can draw upon (I do like much of their Dark line and Wonder Woman). I don't always agree with Marvel's story choices but I do prefer that choice over DC's tendency to focus on the 'iconic' status of characters, making their status as fictional beings so much more obvious by just treating them like trademarks and brands. No point in getting invested in Batgirl's perils for this month, for example, because a new marketing initiative will eventually render it all out of continuity. I'm not really wanting to be a DC vs. Marvel guy... I like both publishers but I think that DC went for short-term obvious fixes that will wear out it's market bump unless they really focus on keeping the quality of the writing up.
That Point One cover with Furyon it, is that Wiccan, Kid Loki, and Miss America? If so, that's the most exciting thing on that page.
Is it me or does the Captain America cover scream the Nineties to anyone else?

I'm most interested in X-Men Legacy #1, only because Si Spurrier is writing and I'm enjoying his Extermination series from Boom. I find this whole Marvel NOW initiative very confusing however and really, it's just same old same old. It would have been better if they would've grown a pair and rebooted their continuity like DC.
X-O Manowar. Harbinger. Bloodshot. Archer & Armstrong. Swamp Thing. Dial H. Captain Marvel. Hit-Girl. Saga. Prophet. Read my reviews of these and more at The Comic Book Couple!
DC is much more than that.

those aren't 90s Marvel by any means.
So a year's worth of comics doesn't have the same cohesion and history as a product 30 years in the making? I'm stunned.
Isn't that the exact thing Marvel is doing with their characters or did I just dream up Black Fury and Hawkeye in his movie outfit?
You do realize that the last major continuity shake-up was about 20 years ago, right? That's a nice long lifespan, especially in today's media world (see: movie Spiderman)
So now we're officially calling new fury " Nick Fury" as in the Point One description?
It was all a dream jr. Legacy looks special. Those readers who find comfort in self marginalization may still have a home in the X line. But yes, I dig the cover.
Still no news about Cosmic titles or art for Hickman's new berth, while the all new X-men cover with Wolverine and NWA is promising.

Ok, I just don't get the whole new number 1, except for a money grab. But I just hope they leave Amazing Spider-Man alone. It's the only comic I care about anymore.
Keep On Thwipin'!!!
