    Default REVIEW: "Batman" #12

Greg McElhatton gives "Batman" #12 by Scott Snyder and Becky Cloonan 4.5 stars calling the issue "a genuinely pleasing detour that gives a strong focus" on new character Harper Row.

I am not liking the art work in this book at all. I do not want to see Becky do any more art for batman ever again

EDIT: I am not saying she is a bad artist I just do not like it, I don't think it suits batman at all

I liked it a lot (except the backup, didn't care for that artist). I think it fit perfectly since this wasn't a "Batman story", but a Harper story. Would I care for her drawing something like Batman #5 (the maze issue)? Probably not, Capullo rocks on that. But for this small scale, personal story, I thought she was just what was needed.

Edit: I hadn't read the review before I wrote this, but it looks like the reviewer agrees with me.

I loved this issue. didn't even notice the art transition. It's awesome that for the human part of story they used Cloonan's art and for Batman part Clark's art. Great choice. I also hope that Harper sticks around. didn't feel this way about a new character in a long time.

Lucky you. It was a pretty big change.

I don't know if I loved the issue as much as every reviewer did, but I thought it was good. I liked Cloonan's art. Clarke, not so much.

I liked the art from both artists but the issue was just glorified filler for me.

Same here. I like a nice one-shot with some cool Bat-interactions, but the art just didn't jive with Batman's style. I can't put my finger on it, but it wasn't working for me.

Art was ok but the story never got me intrested, pretty boring in my opinion.

I would put some serious money on Harper Row being the next Robin.

Can't see any other reason for this story...

Its something like that or this was a real waste of an issue.

My guess is that, with the upcoming Joker story, something bad happens to her.

I can see that. Joker captures her cause he knows she helps Batman, Batman comes and saves the day. Classic story, could easily happen.

I was cool with the Cloonan art, but I do not agree that something with such a fundamentally broken art change should get a 4.5/5 star rating. I think it was especially jarring because of how down I was with the first 2/3rds, and then the writer, AND the artist changed. What the hell, DC?

In the other discussion thread for this issue people have commented that Harper would make a great Oracle, since Barbara is back to being Batgirl...

I like this issue a lot and I think that Becky Cloonan manga style adds a whole new style to Batman. Cloonan's art style was a refreshing breath of fresh air. I do hope DC Comics lets her do more Batman issues or at lest Batman side stories. Her anime-esque art adds a beautiful dimension of color and sassy style to Batman reminiscent of the classic Adam West Batman comedy.
