Bought this because Alex was the writer on one of my favorite comicbooks Proof.

It was a great first novel that deals with Scotland Yard right after the Jack the Ripper murders have taken place in Victorian England.
I enjoyed the character development and the pacing of the book. While it's not really a mystery story it had mystery elements as it went along.
Alex revealed the main protagonist early on in the book, and then allows us to follow along as the detectives in the story catch up to what we the readers already know.
Highly recommend picking it up.
