Default Earth 2 = To "Ultimate Marvel" in a way?

Would anyone here consider the Earth 2 title to kind of be DC's "Ultimate Marvel" in a way? If you think about it, it's an alternate universe with the same characters of the core DCnU but with slightly altered costumes, origins, and storylines, which is basically what Ultimate Marvel was in a nutshell. The only difference is that it's a self contained book instead of a series of titles.

Anyone have a take on this?

No. The Earth 2 concept of a parallel earth in the DC universe with different versions of the same character predates the Ultimate Marvel idea by decades.

Be that as it may, it's still a similar concept and would those reading Earth 2 view this as such? Also, I've only read the first issue and is Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman really dead for good in Earth 2?

You can draw some comparisons if you want to, but if anything Ultimate Marvel is a copy of Earth 2 rather than the other way around. At the very least, I don't think DC launched Earth 2 as an attempt to copy or cash in on what Marvel is doing.

Batman and Wonder Woman are definitely dead and gone, only to be seen in flashbacks from here on out, such as the upcoming zero issue. There's some controversy/disagreement I think on whether Superman is actually dead.

James Robinson has hinted that the E2 Supes might have survived and might return but it will be quite a while from now.

As for E2 Bats and WW, they may be as dead as a comic character can be, translation "They'll stay dead as long as DC sees more $$$ in them being dead!"

But if say a writer or someone else with big pull over the DC TPTB approaches them, gives a pitch for how a team-up between the EPrime and E2 Bats, Supes and WWs could have DC rolling in a pile of $$$ that would make Uncle Scrooge ecstatic then guess who else could be alive again

Nope, not even remotely the same. The happenings of Earth-2 are important to the overall canon, at least, they will be if the New-52 is anything like previous universes. Earth-2 isn't some self-contained thing. DC has a multiverse, and they take it pretty seriously in that regard as far as character interaction and the like. These aren't just different variations on characters from Earth prime, they're unique characters in their own right. DC has made it a pretty clear mandate that with Earth-2, we won't see any alternate Earth versions of main universe characters, except the trinity, and the trinity is dead so...nyeh?

It's not exactly the same thing, and historically speaking, isn't even remotely similar.

The only thing that DC publishes currently that is similar to Ultimate Marvel is DC Earth One. Earth 2 is just a revamp of the JSA/old Earth-Two characters, it looks similar but is a whole different thing.
