Then let me change that to: real people who I would consider taking seriously. Better?

Cripes, real people don't talk like this! What is with comic book writers and not being able to write naturalistic sounding dialogue?!
I don't see it being that unnatural, but I don't see how the only way dialogue can be good is if it's naturalistic (guys like Quentin Tarantino, or petty much every master comic writer pre-Bendis), or why you can't do a mix of both (Brian Azzarello comes to mind).

So, are they dropping Capullo's cover? Will we have variants, then? I don't like this new cover...

Okay, well, I don't necessarily believe that all dialogue should, but it's distracting because it seems obvious to me that Snyder is at least trying to attempt it. What really bugged me is that having a character from a lower class background say something like that has become such a cliche that I just cringe everything time I see it.

I'm liking this art style already. The question is, will it look good during action scenes?

I get the feeling this isnt going to be an action heavy issue.

It does sound a bit unnatural though, mainly the last part. IMO "Not the one my brother and I live in, anyway." or "Not the one my brother and I deal with every day" would have sounded a bit better. And since she's from the narrows, I might have had her say "me and my brother".

Definitely overanalyzing, but as it was written it made me think of someone strongly stating a position that they're passionate about, as opposed to drolly acknowledging an accepted fact.

Not liking the art..it looks too rough and too japan-ish for my taste. But looking forward to see how this Harper character develops into saving Batman's ass.

Why I think it works is because while it's not an uncommon thing, it feels real from what little we see. It's not like history isn't filled with people in power or money, some with more well-intentions than others, trying to make life better for the poor and only make things worse. It makes sense that Harper might appreciate the sentiment, but she'll believe it when she sees it, and is mostly there just for a night out and for free grub.

As for Snyder's intent...I don't know if that is what he's trying to attempt, since the last arc, in a lot of ways, turned out more like a classic comic book horror story style. It seems like the traditional comic book dialogue of the 70s and 80s, which gets out the human intent/emotion, while still giving the required exposition in a way that isn't stilted or stops the flow of the story.

I haven't read a lot of her work, but while I don't remember there being a lot of traditional "fight" scenes, there were some good action beats during her first few issues of Conan with Brian Wood.

Because we all know that EVERYONE who comes from a poor background isn't intelligent or eloquent. As for being passionate about it...Alfred asked, she answered. It's not like she butted in with her opinion on things.

Why did Capullo not draw this issue? Becky isn't the new regular artist, is she? No offense, but her style is unsuitable for Batman.

This. It's not like she's yelling 'jinkies' or something. As it is, Harper Row seems like one of those standard - if presented pretty cool in the media - disaffected teenagers, who absolutely DO use more over-elaborate language to better express themselves. As such.. Well, she works.
