Just found this, the new Ninja Scroll!
I wonder if Ninja Scroll is a big deal in japan, or if it's just a big deal here because it was one of the early bits of anime we got.

The Lion King and WALL-E. Nothing else compares except maybe Beauty and the Beast and Up.
XPOTM:September 2010
I know it's from Disney's low budget period, but I've always loved the Robin Hood cartoon.
For CGI films: The Incredibles, Wall-E, Ratatouille... it's too hard to pick one. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is still my favourite 3D movie.
Traditional:
1. Batman: Under the Red Hood
2. The Great Mouse Detective
Anime: Princess Mononoke
CG: Toy Story
A lot of people get sentience confused for sapience. Your hamster is sentient, you are sapient. Intelligence is sapience.
I'd suggest 4 categories:
Traditional cel animation:
1) The Lion King
2) The Iron Giant
3) Fantasia
Anime:
1) Spirited Away
2) Tokyo Godfathers
3) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds
CGI:
1) Wall-E
2) How to Train Your Dragon
3) Tangled
Stop-motion animation:
1) Coraline
2) Wallace And Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
3) Nightmare Before Christmas
Intellect and Romance over Brute Force and Cynicism!
Traditional: Sword Of The Stranger - by far the greatest samurai movie I have seen.
CG: How To Train Your Dragon - love this so much.
Dont tell me. . . That man. . . In that place. . . At that time. . . With that jutsu. . . - lol, anime suspense kills me!

While I do think "anime"; in it's purest form IS distinctly different than Western cartoons (the classic bead of sweat, the "ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" moments, etc); I DON'T think making a seperate category for "anime" when most people are going to list Studio Ghibli films (which I don't consider "anime"; since "anime" means far more than "drawn by Asian people"). If that makes sense?
