Just wondering what your views are about tie-ins, and your criteria in getting them.
I get ALL tie-ins of events Im getting!!!
I get tie-ins of titles/characters/creative teams I like, for better or for worse!
Only if it ties heavily to the main event.
I wait for reviews first!
I dont get any tie-ins at all!

Well, strictly speaking I skip events altogether so the question is academical.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."
I tend to get all of the main event books that come out, but only get the tie-ins if a book I'm collecting already just happens to be part of it.
Doesn't really matter to me as long as I like something about the individual books.
New Avengers, Morbius The Living Vampire, Scarlet Spider, Iron Man, Fearless Defenders, Fantastic Four, Deadpool Killogy, Savage Wolverine, Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men & X-Force, Cable & X-Force, Gambit
I like the tie-ins more than the events, more often than not. Journey into Mystery's Fear Itself tie-in, for example. Uncanny's tie-in wasn't bad either. And I especially like Aaron's WatXM during AvX.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

I'd rather events didn't have tie ins at all. They should just endeavor to tell the entire story within the event books instead of disrupting the story of another book.
i usually just get the tie ins that are in whatever books i pick up or any tie ins that interest me.
i dont get the main even unless it interests me.
All events should be structured like Annihilation. That would solve all problems.
A prologue.
A few 4 issue mini series' as lead ins.
The main event told in 6 issues.
Epilogue/Aftermath.
That covers a whole year, and you get a solid, well structured story where you can understand what is going on without having to by 10 books a month.

Depends on the situation. If it's an event I'm skipping, the only tie-ins I'll get are books I read already.
If it's an event I am reading, I'll get the books I'd read anyway, plus any that strike me as being potentially interesting. I don't automatically buy all tie-ins, but I will branch out and get some. I've actually discovered quite a few books that way.
Oh, and for the record, I agree with Lord Bravery's comment above re: Annihilation. It's a phenomenal example of not only excellent storytelling, but excellent structure.
I get all tie-ins of the event I'm reading, because there are little gems of information in one tie-in that has significants to why a character acts in the main event. The Deadpool mini in CW showed some other dimension to Cable in the event; The Spider-Man mini in FI showed why Spidey acted like a scared rabbit in the main event; the NA and Avengers tie-ins showed the retrospective significance of when each Skrull came into play in SI.
Visited NY and DC and saw Spider-Man Turn off the Dark.
I tend to skip events. Although I did get Flashpoint. As far as tie ins I skip them. The books I usually get (on my pull list) I tend to skip that arc & give my wallet a break.
I greatly enjoy the way DC does tie-ins (whole load of miniseries), because I can conveniently skip all of them. I avoid tie-ins like the plague, which is unfortunate every so often (just caught up on JiM). I just don't like being forced to buy something else to understand, which is usually the case. Even JiM, which I consider to be one of the most perfectly executed tie-in books had an issue (the 'loki took 8 steps; one) that I couldn't properly understand, and I still don't.
Batman Inc.
New/Uncanny/Young Avengers, Cap, Daredevil, FF, Hawkeye, Thor, Uncanny X-Force, Uncanny X-Men, WatXM
Saga, Unwritten
i am done with events i wont buy them anymore they are pointless and repetitious and they are simpley a way for comic companies to get us to buy books we normally don't have any interest in. but i dont drop the titles i buy on a monthly basis because they are an event tie in. i just suffer through till its over.
I stopped buying Marvel Events back during whatever the Cap event was a bit ago. I think it was Reborn, right? It might have been earlier. Secret Invasion just didn't do it for me. I've been tempted by AvsX, but it has gotten such mixed reviews and with a rotating creative team just doesn't interest me.
If anything in my pull list happens to be a crossover I still get it with the hopes I can understand what is going on. It doesn't always work out that way, or it gives me enough information I don't feel I need to read the events.
It is all to much of a gimmick and at $3.99 a pop I'm good.
"Honestly, I'd recommend that you just not read stuff."

No tie-ins at all. No events.
Maybe if it was less expensive but as it is now i think that in terms of quality it's just not worth the investment.
