Pls help a lady out! Question re Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Gift

Hi,

I am trying to find a cool comic book gift for my husband as part of a first wedding anniversary gift, but I don't know much about comics, so hope that some of you can help :) (Also, sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum!)

Here are the details:
- My husband is a big Spider-Man fan
- He's not a collector or anything, but an avid comic reader
- I bought him Ultimate Spider-Man #1 when we first started dating in 2000
- Paper is the traditional first anniversary gift, which sounds boring, but I figure that a cool comic would fit the bill

So...
I was thinking of ordering him the Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1, but I don't know if this would constitute a cool gift, so expert opinions are greatly appreciated! I think he has already read most, if not all, of the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, but I thought it might be cool to get them all in one impressive looking collection.

I was also wondering, does an omnibus have potential to increase in value over time? I didn't think so, but noticed that Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 is crazy expensive now.

The answer to all of your questions: yes.

I'm a single guy right now, so I had to buy my own.. but I would love to get this from a girl. It seems to send the message "I don't mind your comic book reading habit".

The Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus is one of the best collections of comics I have ever read. For a long time Spider-Man fan, there's really nothing better because not only does it capture everything great about the character, it tells the story in a new way, utilizing everything that made the original spider-man comics great, and adding more of the things that there wasn't enough of. Reading this collection after being a lifelong spider-man fan, for me, was like I had only read the rough draft, and this was the final. It's cool that you got him #1 as a gift, because it's now one of the most valuable modern comics.. and it also means this gift isn't just an awesome book but there is a sentimental connection. I had a girl who gave me the Iron Giant on DVD because we were both moved by it.. It wasn't an expensive gift but it meant a lot.

As for the value going up.. yes it will. Although it's generally agreed upon that modern comics rarely increase in value, the same isn't true of Marvel's Omnibus collection. They are all first printing, and once they're sold out, they're sold out.. and the price jumps anywhere from $100 to a few hundred dollars. People really want these because they're the highest quality collections Marvel puts out.

Marvel generally only makes Omnibuses out of stories that are worth reading more than once. Don't worry that he's already read it. If I had the original issues of Ultimate Spider-Man I wouldn't want to take them out of their plastic bags. This is a great hardcover book. The pages are much larger than the comic, so the art can be appreciated more, and the binding is sewn so it can be laid flat on a table and stay open nicely. It makes the reading experience a lot better. You can sit and read it together! The sewn binding also makes the book last longer and take more abuse. Let this long lasting comic represent your marriage as it stands the test of time and never falls apart!
