    Hell No!

In fact, during the Erik Larsen era Spidey wore black and red most all the time. I know it was supposed to be blue but it was black. Heck, he even had a black suit, remember?

I thought Miles was biracial? Wait a minute! The Costume is only half black! IT IS RACIST!... some how....

"Hey lets have Miles be someone that would represent modern america."

"Hmm.. How about someone biracial? Lots of kids could identify with that these days."

"Good idea, and one of the races could be black... but make sure his costume is black SO EVERY ONE KNOWS!"

I just... I just don't know what to say about these kind of things.

Hey this is progress. If it were the 60s or 70s they'd have just called him Black Spider-Man.

Or if the idea was to distinguish him from Peter, then why not at least give him a different design, while not stripping him of the American Blue and Red?
Note: U.S. Agent? Not American. The Liechtenstein National Flag? American. because it's red and blue.

Or is it celebrating the racial differences? Being proud, etc. (However, if that's so, shouldn't Caucasian Spideys have white/red costumes instead?)
Peter Parker originally asked his tailor to make him a Caucasian and red costume, but his tailor kept giving him things like peach and tan instead, so he eventually gave up and went with blue instead. True story.

He only ever briefly carried himself as a direct replacement to Spider-Man, and everyone told him that was a goddamn awful idea, so Fury gave him his own suit and gadgets to distance himself from Peter's Spider-Man. So why would he wear the red and blues?
The fact in the issue before last folks called him Spider-Man made your argument moot, well that and the Spider-Man portion of the title in big letters on the front of the comic he appears in.....as well as the mini he appears in with another Spider-Man

When I see comments like this it makes me so sad...Miles is wearing a Spider-Man costume, stars in a book called; Ultimate Spider-Man and is called Ultimate Spider-Man by his fans, Marvel, the author and all of the artists of the book. As well as most medias. As well as the characters in the book...so yes Miles is currently Spider-Man in the UU. Peter Parker was Spider-Man. He is now dead let us move on please.

I think Marvel just wanted to make Mile's costume different enough so the mass people could tell the difference between 616 Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-man.

Just wondering why there are two different post for this topic on the ultimate forums? And as I said on the other one, no I don't think its racist it was more of Marvel wanting to have Miles' costume so different that the mass people could in fact tell 616 Spider-man apart from Ultimate Spider-Man.

    I understand all your points.

I'm just saying, for the masses, the suit is an American icon.

But instead, the black kid has to wear the black and red suit? As if he wasn't going to be referred to as the 'black spiderman' enough.

Why not let Miles be allowed to wear the original? Does the storyline of respecting Peter have to exist? Dick Grayson wore the batsuit afterall.

Was equality not the point of Miles Morales in the first place?

If they wanted to distinguish between 616 and Ultimate, why not let 616 Parker switch to black and red? (oh wait...or is it because a black spiderman suit is associated with evil...)

At least it's not as bad as the Black Panther.

Black Panther's suit is modeled after an actual Black Panther and he just happens to be a Black man from a Wakanda, there's no racism involved in that.

The situation with Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne is completely different. Miles repeatedly received commentary that was "In bad taste" to wear Peter's costume, he agreed it was bad taste and was given a suit of his own, courtesy of S.H.I.E.L.D. 616 Peter was later told the same thing when he arrived in the Ultimate Universe. It's in bad taste to wear the deceased Peter Parker's costume, good intentions or no.

There's no racism here, if anything thanks to Bendis, Black people in comics have been on the "grow" (props for whoever gets the reference). But examples are specifically Luke Cage, or Doc Voodoo (though his ascension was short lived), so absolutely no way in hell do I believe Bendis would ever think of something like this. You're just racist, and should go to church a lil more.

    More Costume Schemes:

    Kaine = Red & Black
Miguel = Dark Navy Blue & Red outlines
Miles = Black & Red outlines
Peter in most alternate realities = Black costume

Just happens to be a black man?

He's the first black mainstream marvel superhero, and his name is Black Panther. Come on. That is in bad taste.

That's like if the only white character in a Japanese comic is called White Angel. Some would argue that it's fine since angels are white. But come on.

Yes, but the writers only decided to write it this way to justify their redesign in the first place. Batman's writers didn't want to redesign Dick Grayson's suit, thus they didn't put that in his story.

I don't know, I guess I'll ask some of my black friends, and see what they think.
