Whatever the motivations and planning behind the New52may or may not have been, when you consider that it was announced today that DC beat Marvel in both dollars and unit share for July, it seems unlike that the company is going to want to backtrack any time soon.

    Nothing is forever, though.

I'd rather they actually expand the multiverse. Have my beloved pre-Crisis universe out there somewhere including the old Earth Two. Post-Crisis earth with its all on one earth concept. Don't care if they ever write for them again but it would be cool to know that somewhere out there... back issues matter!

Interesting point, but the gains will be fleeting ... the lack of coordination and long-term planning will catch up with DC, and they'll have to go back to a pre-Flashpoint state and/or get Greg Weisman involved in the universe building

They do...if you view them as previous continuities. Those stories did happen they just aren't happening now. (I guess Legion fans have a better handle on this than any other fan group since we know how this feels like and already put our birth pains of this away).

Idk, but I dont think so. I mean what are they gonna do, move all those characters over to earth 1? Reinvent them AGAIN? I think if Earth 2 does fizzle out theyll just start up a JSA monthly to continue the characters as-is.

The JSA sucked pre-flashpoint cuz they were redundant, now there back SORTA where they should be. Why ruin that?

redundant to you but not to fans who saw them as distinct individuals...

sigh this maybe why those other Legions may never get their own books. Which is said cause individually those legions were great and characters were distinct enough that they could carry a series. Fan appreciation aside...or lack.

You mean like decades ago before they were retconned into geezers to fit in with the JLA? The original Green Lantern was nothing like the older father with grown children who got shoehorned into the Green Lantern Corps.

Pick a number 3-51, add the word Earth before it, and have it be about the old JSA in an ongoing comic. The old JSA could be on a different numbered Earth, or just have them appear on Earth Prim with the Justice League & everyone, like how they were before Flashpoint. Either way will work.

If we were going to do that, I'd prefer the old JSA to have died already. The 90's legacy characters can be the next generation. Being tied to WW2 made the old JSA nonsensical even for a superhero team. Some of them were in their 90's!
Looking for artists, know I won't find any. That blows.

Another person who would support the society from "Logan's Run".

I'm not saying that old people should be turned in for destruction, I'm saying having WWII era characters around with little explanation doesn't work any more. It's just been too long. Marvel has the same problem with a lot of the Nick Fury/Captain America supporting cast, who don't have explanations for their longevity really. People simply don't live that long. There was something sort of cool about older heroes, but it was always spoiled by niggling logic.

Why blow up the setting for some of DC's most popular and enduring characters?

That strikes me as something that removes story potential, rather than creating it. Is there a high concept to this beyond THINGS GO BOOM ?
