Default Building the Marvel Movie Universe: Second Wave Speculation

I know there are some graphic novels based on these movies, but I’m interested in how Phase 2—the second stage of Marvel’s creation of a bedrock film universe to take over for its dead print product—will play out. Feel free to disagree. , In any case:

Iron Man 3—The continuation of the most popular individual franchise will revolve around Robert Downey Jr.’s star power and also plant the seeds of what’s to come, serving the same role as Iron Man 1 and 2. There will be even more set up in Iron Man 3, and Rhodey’s purported role as the government stooge “Iron Patriot” makes me think there might be some sort of Civil War setup for AVENGERS 2. Or not. The Iron Man franchise is the flagship, though, and the release of this movie will give a definite sense of direction to how the second stage of the MMU will unfold.

Thor 2: The Dark World—Shaping up to be the sword-and-sorcery, fantasy realm of the MU, misty mountains and Tolkien-style monsters, with more than enough overlap and cross-pollination to keep the various MU movie threads moving toward the Avengers sequel.

Cap 2: The Winter Soldier—This is the SHIELD playground, same as Brubaker set it up. Fury, Widow, Bucky, Falcon, probably Hawkeye (though Jeremy Renner is kind of lame) and Maria Hill.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Starring Will Smith: Pure sci-fi space stuff, tougher than Star Wars. Again, enough cross-pollination with the rest of the flix. I'm thinking "Serenity" style stuff.

    Wild cards:

Hulk: Try a third solo shot? Marvel can take the hit if it falls below expectations again. But does it want to?

Avengers 2: Just because Thanos made a “and who the heck is that?” cameo in Avengers 1 doesn’t mean anything. Assume this sequel will be fast-tracked and, if there is no Hulk individual movie, he will figure heavily in this one.

Ant-Man—I give up on Ed Wright. The character will show up in a Hulk “bunch of science guys” movie” (maybe Iron Man 3) or Avengers 2.

    Black Panther—Who knows?

Ms. Marvel—Linda Danvers will be in a Marvel movie before we see Carol and her blandly generic powerset.

Heroes for Hire: If this indeed in the chute to be a TV, expect premium cable. Not gonna fly on network TV.

I hope not. I like the idea of Civil War, but there are a lot of other stories to tell beside that one.

I think that they should stick to two movies a summer to avoid oversaturation.

So with Captain America and Thor coming out next year and Iron man and Guardians the year after, they have more than enough on their plate till the 3rd wave after Avengers 2. Who knows how things are going to be like after that, but I know they are definitely going to do another Hulk movie after jade jaw's show stealing turn in Avengers sooner rather than later. With Ant-Man already announced I hope they stick with what they have for now.

In the future I really hope they get a Black Panther movie going, it probably shouldn't be till after Avengers 2 though.

I beg to differ about Jeremy Renner being lame as Hawkeye. He brought his A-game, imo the scenario for the character wasn't executed well.

I'd like to see Mark Ruffalo get his own shot at a Hulk film. He was one of the few great things about the Avengers movie.

As badly as I'd like to see Doctor Strange on the big screen, Marvel's admission of being unable to to think of him beyond Deus ex Machine and sadly depowered martial arts magi ( I enjoy but do not want as a permanent out for Strange and Marvel magic) - we may have to wait awhile for Stephen. Unless, of course, Marvel decides to do a Defenders movie to introduce Doc, Iron Fist, Namor, Red She Hulk and/or past members first.

Guardians of the Galaxy: I can't see Will Smith in the SL role, I know there are many fans who want him but his personality often eclipses the light hearted characters he plays. MiB 3 was disappointing.

I'd love to see some of Hickman's F4 be used for the next F4 movie.

A Moon Knight (sign on Anson Mount please...) or Thomas Jane Punisher series would work great for cable television, while a Daredevil show could be on broadcast or cable depending on how you played it. If Marvel wanted to push their noir-ish anti-heroes cable would be the place to do it.
Wake me up when it's over...

SyFy to do Heroes for Hire? Just a thought. Don't know if they would want to do another super hero type show if Alpha's is still airing.

Fair enough, good points, etc, etc, (though didn't Anson Mount play Potsie on Happy Days?) but putting aside anyone else's personal preferences for casting or character lineup:

What do you think the second wave of Marvel movies is going to try to establish to further develop the Marvel Movie Universe? Creating a Star Wars/Trek wing, a Lord of the Wings fantasy wing, and maybe a street-level SHIELD wing? If not, what?

Besides the cosmic stuff starting up with GotG, I would say get a Legion of Monsters and the Savage Land franchises rolling. Both would be pretty cool non-traditional superhero films, yet still have that Marvel feel.

Are they still planning a movie?

Wich is a bad choice, by the way. Runaways should be a TV series. In a movie, there is not enough time to build the mystery (who is the traitor) and to make people care enough about the characters.
Me: Please Marvel, give some spotlight to your 21th century creations instead of killing them every month.
    Marvel: Avengers Arena, lol!
    Classy as always, Marvel.
