I have no interest in Thor 2, but Eccleston would be fantastic.
He'd be a great choice for the part.
Didn't the Casket of Ancient Winters appear in the first Thor though? It was that item they showed in the prologue that froze Earth until the arrival of the Asgardians. If this is the case, it makes perfect sense to have Malekith as antagonist in the sequel.![]()
My wife and I really enjoyed Thor, but I was hoping for the Enchantress as the villain in Thor 2. This seems like a bit of a hard sell for audiences. (Look, another of the realms is causing trouble. No, those last ones were frost giants... these ones are dark elves!)
Isn't this supposed to be filming this month in London? And they still haven't cast the villain?
It's not unusual to be finalizing the cast up until the shooting starts or even later. It all depends on shooting schedules. They could be half way through shooting and still cast an important character if they haven't been needed until that time.

I love the casting, but not necessarily the villain. Malekith is a bit less than what I was expecting. I was hoping for Hela or Surtur, frankly speaking. Still, great casting.
Yep. It's also not uncommon to replace actor right at the very last second either, or even mid-shoot. I'm not sure how many people recall this, but Hugh Jackman was the 2nd choice to play Wolverine. Dougray Scott had to drop out at the last second because Mission Impossible 2 went over schedule. How about Back to the Future? Michael J.Fox, who was the (unavailable) first choice, replaced Eric Stoltz after he didn't work out. The movie had ~40 minutes of footage already in the can, which meant that nearly everything had to be shot again. That was quite a big deal when we're talking about replacing the lead actor. That's an extreme example though.

He's been casted now according to iGN, but WAS hoping for enchantress.

She might do a 'Thanos' after-credits ect.

Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Doctor.
Doctor Who?
It may be small but it shoots quick!
Oh. That just hurt. And they say my jokes are bad.![]()
Thor 2 is looking to be amazing

Thor was good, simple fun, Loki was wonderfully theatrical in The Avengers and Eccleston was fantastic as The Doctor. Am looking forward to Thor 2.
