    Default The Spider #4

This probably my favorite issue so far. It had some really interesting panel lay outs, especially in the scene where he rescued the little girl locked in the bathroom, and the expressions on people's faces were really emotive. But the real kicker was the end, that blew me away.

It was such a simple " Our hero is stuck in a death trap, will he make it out alive!? Tune in next week to find out!" kind of moment but it fit the tone of the book so well that it came off feeling authentic rather than cliched.

Another thing worth mentioning, when I went to the shop this afternoon to pick up my books I went not realizing both this and the Shadow were being released today, and so I did not bring enough cash to get both. Stuck with the choice of which to buy during this trip I went with the Spider, and I think that's going to end up happening every time now. I hadn't previously thought about dropping one book in favor of the other but when I made the choice today with out any waffling what so ever it seemed like the writing was on the wall. I'll probably end up buying the Shadow some time later this week as there are a few other items I want to pick up but it may be my last unless it really wows me.

Another good issue. Its not anywhere near as good as The Shadow IMO, but they're completely different. The Spider has a comedic touch to it whereas The Shadow is all business. Im not a big fan of the art but the story is a fun read. I dont know how he's gonna get out of this trap but im looking forward to finding out. Ive never bought much dynamite because of the 3.99 price tag but these pulp comics are great. They have great cover artist's too. I also noticed in the solicits that Masks, a pulp hero crossover is on the way from writer Chris Roberson and interior art by Alex Ross! Whoop! cant wait.

"You know where you can find me. In your mother's bedroom." LOL!! This book can thrill me one moment and have me laughing out loud the next. I really enjoy it.

Yes, personally, I enjoy The Shadow more just because I've been a fan of him a long longer (I'd never heard of the Spider until just before his comic debuted), but I certainly enjoy The Spider as well. Can't wait to see how he escapes and this first storyline wraps up.

This is EASILY my favorite of Dynamite's pulp books, easily surpassing the Shadow, which has been rather dull. This issue just highlights why the Shadow isn't fit to lick Wentworth's feet. ;)
    Recommended Comics:
    Star Wars: Dark Times,
Richard Stark's Parker by Darwyn Cooke,
Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye

I learned this is a mini, which explains why that plot isn't resolved yet.
I like it and I expect more stories. I've known this character since Tim Truman's excellent Eclipse series and I heard of him first when Lee mentioned him.

This is not a mini, it's an ongoing and has been confirmed over at the Dynamite forums by creators. So yeah, lot's more of The Spider to come.

I prefer this book over the Shadow's simply because it's more consistent, and the art is much clearer. Not being able to tell one character from another aside there are action scenes in the Shadow where I really don't know what is happening and it isn't until the dialog in the next page explains it that I get what just went down. That isn't the case with the Spider, through the panel lay outs and by the virtue of having crisper art it's easy to see the cause and effect scenarios happening with the art.

This issue was off the charts, the interaction between The Spider and the cop who want's to arrest him was hilarious and left me in stitches as I was reading. The hunt for Anput was great and the way the artist portrayed the way Wentworth interacted with his father was amazing, great writing and fantastic art helped to make this issue a smash hit. The ending has once again hooked me for the next issue with The Spider getting gassed by Anput, I wonder what kind of effects it will have on him moving forward? Man, this book has really become one of the BEST comics on comic shop shelves today, this story is just unreal and deserves as many readers as it can get.
