I think it's almost universally agreed upon that Spider-Man's costume and origin story are about as perfect as they get. Anything else would be trading down.

I agree with this 100%. Spider-Man is an Icon. You can tweak him, but changing him too much takes away from what makes him so unique. The only change I would support would be the return of the Black Costume. I am just a sucker for that look.

I know, she's your prefferred Spider-gal, but myself, am quite sick and tired, of not just all comics, but all media as well, de-emphasizing Mary Jane's importance, place, as if they're all saying "Mary Jane is NOT the girl for Spidey"!!!

    B) No thanks, on Ben's changed demise. Some important things, though modified by the times, should not change - Superman rocketed through Krypton's explosion, Bruce Wayne's folks shot on a mugging before Bruce's eyes, Benjamin shot, because Spider-Man could had stopped the Burglar earlier, all he had to do was grab or punch him before he reached the elevator, but was too arrogant to do so.

    C) Hob before Green??? PUH-LEASE!!!

    D) Not interested in first arc street-level, KNIGHTS style, with Punisher and Kingpin.

    E) A HOOD????
If you include MJ from the start, you lose the impact of her introduction.

Let's imagine this, shall we? I'm a semi-known writer at Marvel, having written The Avengers for a short time and done a few issues on a line-wide crossover. Marvel Editorial is pleased by my writing skills and is planning a line-wide reboot inorder to usher in a new era of Marvel and to recoup some sales numbers after DC beats them out for nearly a year. They've selected me and Rosy Higgins to do the mandatory Spider-Man comic. Here's how I would go about doing it.

I would combine elements from the Ultimate universe, the 616 universe and the Mark Webb movie. We start out with Peter Parker, age sixteen, as a Highschool senior at Midtown High. He's a smart kid, but he's also kind of awkward and a gymnast/ parkour artist. He and Gwen Stacy have been friends since Elementary School and have a close bond to eachother (though Peter has had a crush on her since the sixth grade when he discovered that he really likes girls). Uncle Ben is an old construction worker and Aunt May was a baker. Eddie Brock is also one of Peter's best friends, having been so after he bailed Peter out of an accident involving a fight between him and Harry Osborn. Harry is in college and an ex-friend of Peter's after a big fight he and Peter had before he graduated.

Flash Thompson is still Peter's bully and still becomes a huge Spider-Fan after Peter becomes Spider-Man. Peter goes on a class trip to Oscorp for science class, where he gets bitten by the irradiated spider. He passes out and is taken to Oscorp's infirmary where they give him some meds, some ointment and a bandaid for the bite and send him home, the school giving him an excused absence for the rest of the day. He goes to his room and takes a nap. He has a nightmare/ prophetic dream about Uncle Ben's death and snaps awake. When he does, it's well pasted Supper Time and is kind of freaked out. When he tries to open his door, his hand sticks to it and he tears off the door handle. He continues to freak out when Uncle Ben talks to him from the other side of his door. We cut to the next day, a Saturday, where Peter discovers more of his spider powers. Such as his Spider Sense and agility after flipping over a car while crossing the street on the way to the store to pick up some eggs for Aunt May (organic eggs, ofcourse). He overhears Aunt May and Uncle Ben talk about how they're behind on their bills, he decides he wants to help. He applies for a job at the Daily Bugle, run by the irate J. Jonah Jameson, as a photographer for hire. He gets the job and earns a steady cash flow for a couple months. Both of his guardians are proud of him for acting so selfless and aiding them when they needed it most. With their words, Peter starts helping more people around Midtown High. This eventually escalates in to a fight between him and Flash, Flash having picked on a freshmen and taking his lunch money. Flash gets the snot kicked out of him due to Peter's outrageous strength and gets suspended and getting a talking to by Uncle Ben who tells him "with great power, comes great responsibility". Peter sneaks out at night to clear his mind since he's having trouble sleeping. When Uncle Ben goes to check on him, he goes out and tries to find Peter. Peter gets caught in the middle of a corner store robbery and attempts to diffuse the situation. Ben takes notice of this and calls Peter's name. Peter, being momentarily distracted, is shoved in to a nearby fridge and temporarily stunned. Ben then attacks the criminal, which ends with a bullet being shot through his chest with a horrified Peter helpless to stop it.

After Uncle Ben's funeral, he prowls the streets and rooftops of New York to find Uncle Ben's killer. He starts off wearing a baggy black hood, dark blue jeans and a pair of black Chucks. After an intense scuffle with a gang of street thugs who have seen his face, he starts wearing a pair of goggles and a red mask. This the progresses until he starts making a Spider motif to his vigilante clothes and swaps out his baggy hoodie for a tighter hood. With this, he adapts the name "Spider-Man". With his continued vigilante activity, he gains a following online, becoming something of an urban legend. Jameson decides to capitalize on the growing popularity of Spider-Man by printing anti-Spider-Man rhetoric, not because it reflects his view in Spider-Man, but because smear campaigns tend to sell more papers and get more hits.

Spider-Man's first villain is the Punisher, who is hired by Wilson Fisk of Fisk Banking Co., since Spider-Man has been breaking up his drug trade on the street. Frank has Peter on the ropes for their first few encounters, which have all been from a distance, but ends up having to fight him hand to hand. The Punisher is trained in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do which still has Spider-Man well on the ropes. After this battle, he uses his spare time after school to try and make his webshooters. Once he perfects them, he takes them for a trial run by swinging through the city. This is when he has his final antagonistic encounter with Frank Castle. Frank is caught off guard by Spider-Man's implementation of his web shooters and is swiftly defeated and interrorgated by Spider-Man. He tells him how he was hired by Fisk to take him out, Fisk having lied to him and saying that Peter was the cause of multiple robberies of Fisk owned banks. They form an alliance inorder to take out the Kingpin.

The siege is planned for weeks on end, Frank Castle and Peter being in contact with eachother and forming an almost father-son relationship through it all. Even going so far as to share names and backstories. When the siege is brought to fruition, it plays out much like the siege in Big Time with Spidey and Black Cat, only with the roles reversed. Spider-Man is beaten senseless by Tex and the Kingpin and Frank is fighting off the Hobgoblin, the leader of Wilson's gang, "The Goblins". But in the end Fisk is defeated, Spider-Man is named a hero and now has a strong bond with Frank Castle, and has a steady job that pays well.

The costume I would like to use is of Rosey Higgin's own design. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about : http://www.tencentticker.com/project...sy-Higgins.png

I like this design because it looks like something that could easily be put on and off and the possible inclusion of a backpack could be even better, since he could store the pads, goggles, mask, etc. and take then out for a quick change whenever he's needed.
The only change I would like to have is to get rid of the boots. It's really just a personal preference, but I never liked Converse's boxing boot design. No real reason, they're just very unappealing to me personally, otherwise the suit it perfect.
I like the awkward backstory with Harry Osborn.
I'm not sure Brock should be a high school student. It makes him slightly less imposing. And it makes his inevitable screw-ups more forgivable.

With your take on Uncle Ben's death, Peter was still trying to do the right thing. The entire point of the lesson was that Peter's arrogance/ failure to do the right thing resulted in horrific consequences.

If there's a relaunch of the entire Marvel Universe, I would expect there to be one of the Punisher as well. But this version of the Punisher is too easily manipulated. I don't know if they should have a strong bond, although I do like the idea of Frank Castle as an influence on the budding superhero.

I'd save Fisk and the Punisher for at least the second arc, because neither has anything to do with Spider-Man's origin. It also makes Spidey's first story into a team-up, which doesn't quite fit the character.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

    Yeah, you're right.
This was the first draft, so I'm taking all criticisms in to consideration.

Do you know what issue? I think it it would be interesting to try again, and I remember really hopeing that they would have went this route with the original Ultimate Spider-Man.

I'd keep the clone saga. We got Ben and Kaine out of that. But I would make it waaaaaaaaay shorter and take out the "Peter is a clone" stuff.

There have been a few tweaks that I thought worked wonderfully over the years. Using a genetically altered spider instead of a radioactive one for instance (although it doesn't sound as cool.)

The first Raimi movie had a few that I think improved things as well. Having the burglar carjack Ben instead of following Peter home simplified things tremendously. I also like Bruce Campbell giving Peter his hero name. (The Human Spider? That sucks, kid.)
Highly Evolved Creature Totally Orientated on Revenge.

Apparently it was What if #46, though I found a later What If one shot whilst looking for that here.

Default My Ideas for a Spiderman Comic Book Reboot

Personally i think it is high time that the Spiderman comics should get a reboot and start over again. Here are just a few ideas i have for the Comic Spiderman Reboot.

It completly reboots the Spiderman comics.

The first storyline of the Spiderman reboot will deal with Spiderman's Origins

In the Spiderman Comic Reboot..Peter Parker is in highschool and is 17 years old.

Peter Parker is still a very smart nerd but he doesn't get picked on as much as he used to.

Peter Parker is in a relationship with Mary Jane.Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's Girlfreind but he broke up with her two years ago

At some point Gwen Stacy will find the Venom Symobite and will become Venom. She will not only have a vendetta against Spiderman (For not saving her father) but she also has a vendetta against Peter Parker (For Breaking up with her).Gwen Stacy Venom won't be as strong as Eddie Brock's Venom but she is still a worthy oppent for Spiderman. She later finds out that Peter Parker is Spiderman

Norman Osburn will not become Green Goblin until much later

After the First Stroyline. The Second storyline will be about the Punisher be hunting Spiderman because of the Kingpin and what happens in the first storyline

The thrid storyline will focus on Gwen Stacy becoming Venom

Venom,Doc Ock and the Lizard will be the main villains but there will be plenty of villains (Old and New) that will fight Spiderman

Spiderman personality is very much like his personalty in the Amazing Spiderman Film

Spiderman's costume will be very simler to the Spiderman's costume in the Amazing Spiderman Film

In the first storyline..Uncle Ben will be killed..and that is the main reason Peter becomes Spiderman

The Origin of Spiderman will be simler to the Amazing Spiderman film

All the villains will get a new redesign..Kraven the Hunter will get the biggest chance in his design

Miles Morales will make a apperence and will become SpiderBoy.Spiderboy will be introduced in the 5th storyline

Spider Girl/Woman will not be featured till much later

Eddie Brock will not be in the Amazing Spiderman Comic Reboot

Some of the storylines will be simler to the Old-School Spiderman Storylines

Gwen Stacy will not end up getting killed

Mary Jane will be Peter's girlfreind for a couple of years

Harry Osborn will be introduced as Peter's freind and will be a huge fan of Spiderman

Flash Tompson will not be in Amazing Spiderman Reboot

Jameson and the Daily Bugle will be introduced in the 6th-10th storyline

Each storyline will be 6-8 issues long

When he was 2 years younger..he was pretty much a jerk

The Venom design will not change all that much

So there is just a few of my ideas for the Spiderman Comic Book Reboot..i will post more ideas later

I like your idea for Gwen as Venom, but I think changing it so Peter Parker isn't bullied so much or that he was a bit of a jerk himself takes away what makes the character so special.

Also, I think 'the public' are sick of origins. If you rebooted Spider-Man, start where he has been a superhero for a little while at least - maybe with his first supervillain fight. If your reboot is successful, your origin story can come later via flashbacks. AND you can link future events to your origin, eg Green Lantern Secret Origin.
