    Default AvX #9 *Spoilers*

There are spoilers in this review, so if you don't want to be spoiled, stay the heck away!

    - The issue begins with someone being beat down badly by Colossus, seventeen hours from the present. We have a first person view of Colossus so we don't know who this person is. Colossus is asking the unseen person to stay down to which the person replies "sorry, can't do that".

-The scene switches back to the present and we see the Avengers escaping through a portal into Kun Lun. Captain America tells Spider-man they've lost Thor. We see a full page of Colossus and Magick laying the smack down on the thunder god (i think this series should have a sub title called in how many ways can Thor be beaten).

    - In Kun Lun, Tony Stark is trying to find the connection between Scarlet Witch's hex power, The Phoenix and the Iron Fist. Hope confronts Spider-man because she's tired of the training. Spider-man asks her to go back and get ready because eventually she will get her opportunity.

    - In Siberia, Magick and Colossus drop a magically chained up Thor into a volcano. Other members of the X-men are coming to realize that despite the good work of the P5, that Cyclops and his team has been corrupted. Storm orders the rest of the X-men to leave immediately.

    - In Ethiopia, Scott confronts Emma. Emma tells Scott she went to the inhospitable land (in the Danakil desert) in Ethiopia because it's one of the most quiet places on the Earth. Emma tells Scott that she's managed to reach into every mind on Earth including the Avengers and has been tempted to switch them off. Scott tells Emma (again) that they are not at war with the Avengers and that she should get it together and come back home. Emma tells Scott that she's knows that Hope is in Kun Lun, Scott flies off but Emma asks him to stay because she's afraid of what she's becoming. She whispers to herself that Scott should "please, stop me".

    - Later. In some random dude's home, Emma kills a man (telepathically) because the guy killed a mutant in 1987 by accident and kept it a secret. Emma now feels that there no more secrets to be kept from her (i guess this is Emma's Darth Vader heel turn).

    - In Wakanda (or what's left of it), Storm confronts the Black Panther. The Panther tells Ororo off and asks her to go back to the X-men. Ororo tells T'Challa she had no idea what would happen. BP lets Storm that their marriage has been annulled by the high priest of Wakanda, to which Storm replies "but you are the high priest" (translation, BP just divorced her ass!). Storm stays classy and asks for the marriage talk to wait and she's now prepared to fight by her husbands side.

    - In Siberia, The Avengers are swooping in to save their allies. Storm revealed the details of where the volcano prison is to Black Panther and Professor X has telepathically guided the Avengers there. The Avengers locate their allies and are horrified at the prison that Magick had created (she literally placed a part of Limbo on Earth). They also note that they can't teleport their way out and if it comes to it, they would have to fight their way out. Colossus and Magick detect their prison being breached and they attack the Avengers. It isn't much of fight as the X-men prove too powerful but Spider-man pulls the Avengers out of the way and seals himself off with Colossus and Magick. Storm and Professor X come to the Avengers aide and open up an escape route for them.

    - Colossus and Magick beat the crap out of Spider-man (all the while he never stops talking). Colossus and Magick keep bickering among themselves and Spider-man baits them by reminding them what would happen to the other's power if one of them fell.

    - The Avengers are going back to Kun Lun through the portal when they hear the Volcano prison erupt. Hope reminds them that they've left Spider-man back in the prison. The Avengers rush back and see Piotr and Illyana on the floor with Spider-man standing over them. Magick and Colossus fought themselves and put themselves down thus losing the PF.

    - As the Avengers are about to celebrate there's a bright light in Kun Lun over Hope and the Thunderer. Hope is shocked and the Thunderer recognizes the light as it represents a dimension being torn open.

    - Cyclops has found Hope in Kun Lun and with his hand stretched out asks her to come home.

Fun issue. I've been waiting for Storm and Xavier to step in. Love that it's happening.

Well, that'll teach them to mess with the Amazing Spider-Man.

That's the long and the short of it. I'd just clarify that Colossus and Magik fought each other, not just because of the temptation for power, but they were egged on because Magik wanted to cripple or kill Spider-man and Colossus was very concerned that Magik would drift back to the dark side. He was trying, in his own way, to preserve who he was, and also keep Magik from doing something she'd regret.

    Spider-Man was great!

The Emma thing... she wanted to turn the Avengers' minds off for a long time (a part of her deep down inside) and it looks like she'd been meditating for a long time to keep herself from doing so. She asked Scott to help, but it looks like Scott more or less left the minute he learned Hope was in Wakanda. In a lot of ways, it looks like Emma has lost control. The guy she murdered, more specifically, yes, he kept it a secret, but it was largely because the the person he hit was a mutant-- as though he considered "oh a mutant, no big deal." It wasn't just that it was a secret sin he kept. That part is kinda weird. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for Emma-- next issue could be worse-- I guess I can see how Emma and Scott fight-- Emma will probably come for the Avengers at some point in time...

Sounds fun. So Emma is pretty much all evil now, huh? Sorry to hear.

Maybe she is the one who kills Prof X?

So... did Doctor Strange do anything or was it all the Spider-Man's-so-great-and-wonderful show?

Colossus and Magick fought themselves and took themselves out, meaning the power left both of them and moved to Scott and Emma.

No mention of Namor but I assume he's somewhere in Wakanda. Probably imprisoned.

I am loving AvX....best event in a long time, IMO.

However, I'm ready for it to be over. Let's wrap this up!

Strange didn't do much except look impotent.

Which is pretty much what we've come to expect since he's been de-powered.

I agree and I've said it before too. AVX is one of Marvel's better events.

However, it's gotten a bit long in the tooth and I'm waiting for what comes next.

AvX is good. I think I'd cut pretty much all of Act 1 though. But it is good fun. Well, actually, I can't say that-- as an Emma fan they've got me a bit bothered by her treatment and if they just throw her away I really don't think I could over look that. But yes, it's doing it's job in that I'm on the boards, I'm reading and looking forward to the next issues. It isn't boring!

They beat each other off panel. Spider-man says "you know what happens when one of you loses the power" and Magik and Colossus look at each other. The next panel, you see realize that their power exploded and you see them magik and colossus on the ground.
