Well, it wasn't exactly a fight. In an issue of Marvel Comics Presents (blanking on the issue, but I think it was in the first 10), a severely injured Will Talltrees is in surgery, having been ambushed and beaten by Bengal. He then has a face-to-face talk with Owayodata, confronts his guilt about his past (Will didn't kill anyone, but I think he flew the chopper), and rededicates himself to being a better Red Wolf. He also gets a new Lobo pup.

Er... wouldn't that Vietnam-specific matter be from a comic from 1989? That's 23 years ago. I'm not sure there's any way Red Wolf could be that old now.
Because he only appeared in a few panels in a scene that was played purely for laughs and wasn't used since (not even by Slott). That scene (at least to me) smacked of making fun of the character.
(a) See my above comment (b) I never said that he wanted to or was trying to take a pot shot at Roy, however I am saying that he indirectly and unintentionally is insulting Roy by making fun of LL and (c) see my previous posts. What makes you think that Dan Slott a) dislikes the LL character or b) Wanted to take a pot shot Roy Thomas by making a character he created gay or c) that either writer would consider making a character gay automatically would be an insult anyway?
Again, see my previous posts. What would give you the idea for your mind reading in this way?
There was nothing going on in making fun of a character there. It was lighthearted, but he simply thought that the GLA was the gay/lesbian alliance and when they weren't, he left. The whole mini had this tone; the idea that no one wants to join the GLA - it wasn't a dig at LL, but at the GLA.
And it has been referenced that LL is gay since, in Avengers Academy 5
I see no reason to think Slott has anything against LL unless you believe making him gay was insulting. I really can't see what difference that makes, so I cant see any insult. Unless Thomas himself has indicated he is remotely insulted, I'm afraid that I consider that to be totally spurious and poor reasoning.
While I do appreciate your view in regards how a characters original writer may come up with that character, you can see my previous posts as to how I feel original writers original concepts have to change else everything gets old fast.
