Seriously, when are we going to get DC Universe figures of the Earth 2 cast?
I'm loving Earth-2. Its probably my favourite DC title right now (although I'm loving Worlds' Finest too). I did wonder if a decision has been made to get rid of any exact counterparts from Earth-2.
Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman are dead and all the new heroes that follow might share a codename with a Prime Earth character (Flash, Green Lantern, Atom etc) but are totally different in terms of their secret identity, origin and power source etc.
So I'm guessing we won't see an Earth-2 'Arthur Curry' Aquaman, or 'Dick Grayson' Robin, or 'Oliver Queen' Green Arrow.
I guess the interesting 'twists' could come from the likes of Hawkman (what's Carter Hall doing on Prime Earth anyway?) or Black Canary. But we'll have to see.
I cannot wait to get my hands on the first E-2 Alan Scott Green Lantern action figure!!
Yah, these are comic books. Some people expect way too much from this medium if it's from the staple companies of either DC or Marvel. You want depth of mature/adult stories? Go read independent or japanese comics, super hero books are about the gloriously silly smashing!
Pull list:
Adventure Time, Batgirl, Batman & Robin, BOP, Earth 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, He-Man, Katana, Nightwing, Shadowman, Swamp Thing, The Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man, Worlds' Finest
Agree. Robinson has a fixation with all green costumes with green powersets. Monotonous! Alan still needs a cape, maybe a manifestation of his power. Dramatic and badass! Wonder why they decided to not add the black like they had in the previews...someone is thinking too much. The "green" theme is overkill, we get it. Much like the silly "lantern" because he was a LANTERN, get it?
It wasn't Robinson's idea on how the costumes looked really. In fact there are a few he dislikes but he didn't want to point them out to not point fingers.

I think the biggest concern I had about this story was the combining of various issues of "Secret Origins" and an actual plot. I'm not expecting much more than a simple Grundy being beaten (for now) and escaping and being a constant threat on the horizon. Obvious subplots needing pages are Hawkgirl's history, couple of details on Atom's origin, and whatever happened to Terry and Michael? It has come together OK, though, but I'm anxiously waiting a story that is not half origins.
And yes, I like this, despite the fact I'd rather be reading about the older group and their progeny.

It seems more and more from my POV at any rate that DC is writing their comics moreso for the trades. So far any story from the last year I've read in a trade is much stronger and more cohesive as a whole in the trade than reading the ongoing narratives on a shorter 20-22 page basis month to month.

Adventure Time, Batgirl, Batman & Robin, BOP, Earth 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, He-Man, Katana, Nightwing, Shadowman, Swamp Thing, The Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man, Worlds' Finest
That's a good point, but the particular nature of this first earth-2 arc is the origins of the main characters. It's more of a challenge to basically fit 15 pages of Flash origin, 15 pages of Green Lantern origin and 15 pages of Atom origin (page counts only estimated roughly) into a JSA vs Grundy story. I think Robinson's done a good job even with the necessary combining of smaller stories. Really, what we could have had is a Trinity issue, a Flash issue, a GL issue and an Atom issue, then a two-three issue Grundy fight. Instead we've gotten something that has a flow.
What I'm looking forward to is an arc Robinson can sink his teeth into and put the entire story out there and not be restricted by adding necessary origins.
But still, imagine a JSA OGN, with each character's chapter drawn by a different artist. I don't mind writing for the trade for the JSA. They've always been involved in big stories so dealing with them on a trade basis might be an all star carrot for the old time guard.

Solidly enjoyable issue, it remains in my top two. The only disappointment is in having the #0 issue shoe-horn inbetween the conclusion of the fight with Grundy and now apparently the Atom as well. Also a one-page update on what's happening with E-0's Mr. Terrific wouldn't have hurt either, as it seems certain he too is to join the team eventually.
