Happy, but I won't commit to Tec until I know that the stories are actual detective stories.

I do read Chew, and every issue of that does have an actual detective story--if not in the A-story, than at least in the B.

This is good reason to read Tec again for first time since Snyder left. A writer i know and trust to be good enough.

From two different CBR articles (1, 2):

I am trying to do this like "Chew" in that every issue will be a case or its own self-contained adventure. I am not a huge fan of decompressed storytelling where you spend three or four bucks and you get one scene of one guy doing one thing. I am going to try and satisfy everyone, every issue, while leading to a bigger story.
I’m going to take a look at the role of criminal organizations within Gotham City, hopefully from a perspective that does not get considered very often (if at all). From the symbiotic relationship a master criminal must have with Gotham in order to survive, to the lowly, often faceless criminal underling hoping to rise up the ranks. All that, plus Batman’s gonna play with a bunch of crazy new toys and kick all kinds of butt.
It seems to me like we'll be getting some street-level detective stories.
    Current favorites:

    DC: Smallville, Supergirl, Detective Comics
Marvel: Ultimate X-Men, Scarlet Spider, X-Factor, Thor
Other: Saga, Angel & Faith, Buffy

REALLY glad to hear he's writing a fun batman

above all else, that's what I what from my comics. I find it all a little depressing when things get too serious.

I kinda hope he's writing the backups too. I like when the backups compliment the main feature as much as possible.

Yeah, nothings really been said in that regard has it? I mean, I know Szymon Kudranski was still solicited as the artist, but I mean.... those are just solicits.

I'm hoping so myself. I really miss those kinds of stories and I'm hoping Layman will put the "detective" back into Detective Comics.

Doesn't really indicate how much detective work Batman himself will do.

I watched the part of the interview that deals with Detective, but I don't think it really told us anything new.

OMG PLASTICMAN WOULD BE PERFECT! DC why isn't he on Plasticman? Don't get me wrong, I am waiting to see him on Detective (i cried when it was announced), but he would write an amazing Plasticman.

will he still be suited to plastic man when they're through? I'm not sure

No, you're wrong. Simone and EVS are going a book outside of NEW 52 continuity and it features Plasticman. It is actually a team book and Plasticman is only one of the people in the book. Nice try though.

What are you talking about? Do you not know John Layman's writing? Of course he will -- even you. Especially doubters like you.
