    Default A More Grounded Batman?

After seeing Dark Knight Rises I've gotta say I wish there was a Batman comic out there that was a little more grounded in reality. Obviously Nolan's movies are over the top but I really dig how they tone down the gadgets and the campy villains in comparison to the comics. This is why Frank Miller's Year One series got me interested in the Batman character in the first place.

I'd love to read a Batman comic that didn't have anything to do with time travel or super mutant type characters or anything like that. I'd rather have a Batman comic more like Ed Brubaker's Criminal series. I suppose that's why I liked Gotham Central so much. Who's with me?

    That sounds really dull.

Some people may only be attracted to Batman because of the villains, the things he can do, etc. While Batman has done exceptional things normal humans couldn't even imagine doing, it's also what attracts people to him. Seeing Batman take on aliens and super powered beings, I have no problem seeing no matter how unrealistic it may be. Just like in movies like the Aliens and Predator series, we know these things are impossible but it still brings us joy to see someone just like us doing the impossible.

I like a good crime noir Batman, of which I'm assuming that's what you want. It's nothing wrong with that, but there are stories of which he does exactly that. It just doesn't happen all the time, just like him not encountering campy villains and aliens all the time. There's something for everyone

Batman: Earth One by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank came out last Wednesday. It's a 144-page $24 hardcover graphic novel. If you want a more "grounded" Batman...you got it. Well done, too.

I don't read superhero comics for incredible feats of realism. Batman isn't a realistic character.

A crime noir Batman is exactly what I've got in mind and yeah I suppose you're right that those stories do pop up from time to time. I really dug The Long Halloween.

Here you go, once every two years or so like the movies and with a single creative team through out it's future run (or at least that's the plan)

Though Superman exists in this world too, But there seems to be no plans for a crossover in the near future.
...And does Mr. Goddanm Batman says so much as ''Thanks''? OF COURSE not. That'd hardly be GRIM AND GRITTY, would it?

    The jerk...

Yeah Earth One will give you that, plus, though I didn't like this one, Azzarello/Bemerjo's Joker.

As of issue 10 the current Dark Knight series is very similair to the style of the films and a pretty decent read. It's a five part Scarecrow arc.

    Also second the Joker GN

And all of Gotham Central, you can actually start with Vol.2 Jokers and Madmen which is a Joker arc

Detective Comics would be a good place to look for such stories... If it wasnt a downright horrible book.
