Compared to the other 3, I believe that Amazing has underperformed in the US though worldwide it is much more successful.

(I didn't know but am not surprised this got thread-drifted.)
The answer to the question is "Yes." The real discussion is did it underperform for Sony? And that's a trickier answer that nobody can really know for sure. Because, as I said earlier, it wasn't able to outgross a movie that came out a decade ago, when Amazing had higher ticket prices and 3D.
The monster saved them all. And in their fear, they betrayed him. As they always have. As they always will.

It's because Amazing was an origin. People are tired of origins, and that goes double when an origin film has already been made for the character.
Look at Avengers or TDK or TDKR. The public wants to see the heroes in their prime, kicking ass. Not with training wheels.
Honestly it seems that people don't give much of a damn about this movie. So little excitement, so little talks about it.
The origin story was probably the biggest thing against the film. It's debatable whether or not it performed to expectations. Overseas it matched the first two Raimi films. It's only the domestic release where there's a slight hitch, but consider that domestically it performed better than Green Lantern worldwide and slightly worse than John Carter worldwide and I'd say it's a success. It's not outstanding like Avengers or TDK but it easily did well enough to warrant a sequel.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!
Yeah, I thought that ASM was easily 3rd in the race against Avengers and TDKR for the summer superhero race even in the Spring before any one of them opened. Now that they are all opened, it would seem the reviews/box office bore out those predictions. Again, ASM was not a bad film and I thought it was better than I anticipated but it probably would have benefitted from an opening where it was the only superhero flick on the docket.

The Shadow, 2008
There will be a sequel and I expect it to do a lot better. ASM is the best superhero movie ever made, but it had stiff competition going up against the finale of the best superhero series ever made and the experiment that was The Avengers.
No one expected this movie to come near the previous films because of the reboot, the studios didn't, the analyst didn't, and sony didn't. How is this a question Its making the money the studios expected thats a success.
Is this question for those who are psychotic, because this isn't even a question for people who live in reality or follow movie news.
BAD TOUCHSCREEN TYPER
Domestic Box office in general have pretty much shrunken so I don't think the studio was anticipating for it to gross as much as the Raimi trilogy. At this point in time, it's defintely going to end up grossing around 700 mil worldwide, which is pretty damn good for a reboot.
For it to be a dissapointment or a flop, it's domestic numbers had to have been much lower than the production budget.
"And in a few years, some rebellious little kid is going to turn up at your school with me on his t-shirt. 'Cyclops was right.'"
After Avengers, it was really hard for me to get excited about another superhero move. Hence, I did not go see either ASM or TDKR but am waiting on both of them until video. Might go see Total Recall, though, that movie looks amazing. But, yah, Avengers ruined me for summer hero movies.
Perfect humility dispenses with modesty.
Most seem to forget that this will be the most successful superhero reboot commercially. I'd say it was successful just on the fact the third movie left a bad taste in most people's mouths and people still went to see this movie. I think this movie confirmed for Sony that they only need to make a decent Spider-man movie and it will rake in the cash supposedly the movie will finish with 800 million sounds like a financial hit to me. Heres the link to 800 million finish http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=39745.
