They did, but that's the same as saying they're moving the majority of their books to $3.99.

We know that Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Uncanny X-Men, Avengers, and New Avengers are all being cancelled and relaunched in some fashion or other. Of those Fantastic Four is the only book at $2.99 pre-Now, and I'd agree that chances are it will be moved to $3.99. But that's only one book out of 8 so far.

You could still be right that most of their books will be $3.99 after this is done. Right now, I think that $2.99/$3.99 ratio is roughly 50/50, not counting Icon books (the creators set the prices of those books, not Marvel). Let's see how it pans out when the November and December solicits come in.

I agree with you 100% and hope I'm wrong. I just don't think I am. If I am, I will happily admit it and pick up a few of the $2.99 books. If I'm right, I guess it will just be Daredevil for me...

I really do not think they've done the math on the whole 2.99/3.99 thing. Beyond money, it's company reputation. My favorite author is Morrison, and I refuse to buy DC's stupidly priced 3.99 Action, I wait on the $%^&ing university library's copy. I buy Batman as the back-up is written by the same guy as the title series.

Worse yet, does Marvel even do back-ups?

It's intriguing. Rick Remember seems crazy enough to make it work.

I know Marvel NOW! is all marketing but for once Marvel has the creative teams to back up their showmanship. Aaron/Rubic on Thor, Waid/Yu on Hulk and Remember/Cassaday on Uncanny Avengers particularly.

Default Why does Marvel feel like they have to do "Marvel NOW"?

[I wish that there was a giant thread that this could go in seeing as how this isn't to big a question. If anyone can move this to a bigger thread please move it,there]

I'm honestly a bit worried about "Marvel NOW".Is AvX honestly shaking up the status quo that much?.I felt that Seige definately had way more at risk then AvX did to have enuff cause for a reboot.Which is what we were suppose to have gotten with the "Heroic age -_-" right?.Is it just b/c they feel like they've got more competition with DC's "the new 52" stuff?.

Thing is X-men and spider-man stuff has always been as staple to me as chicken and rice when it comes to the wonderful world of a sequential art book diet () ever since I was a toddler.I've recently added DareD to that diet as well since like last year even if I was fascinated by the Ben Affleck movie years ago when I was a kid. However I recently lost my liking for DC almost entirely were it not for Animal man (and if it counts Vertigo's) Fables which I discovered a few weeks ago.My point is I wouldn't like to lose Marvel consistent appeal to me,anymore then I wouldn't like to lose a good friend by having to see them move away and having them waving goodbye while there in the car.I'm sorry if that sounds like an exagerration.

If things dont go to good then I'm sorry but maybe I'll still poke my head in Marvel from time to time the same way I poke my head into the independent stuff from IDW but I might go nearly all manga if they mess this up!

Marvel isn't rebooting anything. Continuity is still the same. They're just relaunching titles with new creative teams. I don't see why people worry about this.

This, basically. It's really not that big a deal. More than any events from AvX, I think a lot of it is that several major runs happen to be concluding at roughly the same time (Hickman's Fantastic Four, Brubaker's Cap, Fraction's Iron Man, Gillen's JIM, Way's Deadpool, etc) so you were bound to see a bunch of new creative teams in late 2012/early 2013 even if there wasn't a major initiative. All this does is slap on a new number one to mark the fact that a new creative team is coming onboard. It doesn't change much.

I also think that this is just the final "handing over of the keys" from the Quesada era to the Alonso era.

So yeah, basically, all of this would be happening anyway even without Marvel NOW or AvX. Marvel's just pointing it out and promoting it.

Which is viciously heinous, to some people, for some reason.

    Exactly.

It boggles my mind why a change in numbering and creators gets people upset.

This has been happening in comics for a good number of years. Yes, it's frequency has increased but it really isn't anything unusual.

I feel it is a little bigger than just the natural handing over of books, but I agree that it is not something to get too worked up over. My only complaint is that I want to know where my books will be landing as far as talent (and if they will exist). This is mainly because A) I always want to know these things, the curiosity eats at me ;) and B) I want to look at all the books I am getting and adjust the pull list, to make sure I can afford the books I want.

This does seem like Heroic Age 2.0, though we will have to wait for AvX to finish before we can see the thematic scope of the line.

I for one, applaud Marvel's honesty in promoting this as basically more of the same rather than a bunch of supposedly new stuff that eventually turns out to be identical to what came before. I mean, it doesn't look like they're really overhyping this at all, everything they've shown has been pretty vanilla.

Well, if you like a certain writer it's normal to feel a bit bumped if he stops writing your favorite book. Especially if in exchange you get a dude you don't really appreciate as a writer.

But anyway, yeah, that's just Marvel trying a little stunt, no biggie.

    This.

I guess they're doing it because it worked out for DC (even if Marvel aren't going as far) and to capitalize on the popularity of the Avengers and Spider-Man movies by giving new readers a good jumping on point.
