This whole Now! gimmick is obviously a response to DC's new 52. Come on, they can read sales number just fine and yes, DC sold a shitload of paper thanks to that little stunt.

But as they don't want to reboot the MU, well, they simply are doing a relaunch. Trying in the process to make X-men fans believe that Avengers books are worth reading.
I think now that Hickman will be on Avengers they will be worth reading.

Really hope so. Hickman's been doing great for years now with the Fantastic Four so let's be optimistic.

Does AVX in any way resemble the lead up event for DC's 52? By that I mean, was AVX similar to what led to 52? Some snitchy fight among super heroes that all ended sadly, so they had to restart it as 52?

Visited NY and DC and saw Spider-Man Turn off the Dark.

I think Marvel just saw from the New 52 that pretty much anything will sell better if you slap a #1 on it. I think they've even said this in interviews. Something like Marvel NOW! is a way for them to have an excuse to put a new #1 on a number of books. I'm not saying that's a bad thing because Marvel is a business. They need to make money. My only concern is the stories that come out of it. If Marvel and DC start looking for tired excuses to launch new #1s, then I think that's going to be a problem. But so long as they keep selling, they'll keep doing it. That's business 101.

It's a sales gimmick, making it look like there will be a new status quo... that will be strangely familiar to the last one.

Although if Hickman and Remender are writing Avengers books, i might be able to start following them again.

Like DC did before, Marvel will set up several new #1 titles which will in theory serve as a good jumping on point for people of those categories.

However, there are three very different facets about how Marvel Now! will be done as opposed as to DC's attempt at a major jumping on point, the new 52.

1.Some titles will continue on due to popularity or being too fresh to relaunch. Winter solider, Daredevil,Captain Marvel,Secret Avengers, and others will not be relaunched at all.

2.Countinuity is still the same, it's just a new storytelling era (which gave me a big ol sigh of relief)

    3. Not all new titles will be released on the same month. The Marvel Now! stable of books will be released between October and Febuary.

So yeah, it should be a good jumping on point, and its very expansive.

So far we know 4 titles that will be a part of the Marvel Now! initiative; Rick Remender's Uncanny Avengers featuring a team composed of members from both the X-men and Avengers, Brian Bendis' All new X-Men which is about the original 5 X-men coming to the future to discover a less than bright future, Johnathan Hickman's Avengers which we know will have an 18 member cast with the movie verse squad, Shang-chi and 11 other undisclosed characters, And Hickman's New Avengers which we know very little about.

Other titles that are ending and we can presume will be renewed are Captain America,Fantastic 4(and its sister title FF) Iron Man,and Thor(and its sister title Journey into Mystery)

There are other titles that will end but thats what sticks in my mind.

So stay tuned, and I hope that was informative!
That is a great synopsis, Thank you.

I think its great that they are shuffling around creative teams and making a big deal out of it. Sure its a response to DC's 52, but DC hit the reboot button. Marvel is actually celebrating the fact that new writers and artists are taking over various books.

Also, to the poster who wanted a new horror title, I am sure with 4 months of a new #1 every week, I am sure some vampire/werewolf/twilight/walking dead/zombie like book will come out.

    Same here.
DC and Marvel have always 'seemed' to copy-cat each other from time to time...this is no different. And as with DC's 52...I hope to add a few new (books I would have otherwise not even considered reading) titles to my pull-list and as such I've already pledged my support for Hickman's Avengers and Red She Hulk. And I eagerly await the finalised "NOW" solicits.

Isn't it obvious? It's a marketing scheme to try to get more readers.

Never said it was. But the question was, "what is Marvel NOW! really supposed to be?", so I gave the answer.
