This is strangely coincidental seeing as I watched Robo Geisha earlier today and they had dishonored Geisha trainees and assassins commit seppuku.

Japan is weird to say the least, I will freely admit. That movie did have a nice plot revolving around two sisters in a love/hate relationship with each other, and having sisters it actually did a good job capturing the complex bond between sisters.

Isn't Psylocke more of a ninja than she is a samurai? Seppuku was usually reserved for Samurai and Samurai alone. Ninjas were typically taken from the lower classes precisely because they worked in the shadows which for a samurai would be considered disgraceful. In fact, most samurai would not admit they employed Ninjas because their tactics were considered underhanded and unbecoming of a true samurai.

So unless Kwannon was of samurai blood, I think she and by extension Psylocke would be seen as undeserving of the honor of committing seppuku. I think ninjas were beheaded or strangled and the proper method for her to committ suicide would be in a manner that would leave her body unrecognizable so that she could not be tied back to her employer and bring shame on them.

It is amusing that people are chastising Psylocke for being inauthentic or too white by basically exposing their inauthenticness and/or whiteness by completely misapplying the concept of the samurai code to a ninja who anyone with a passing knowledge of Japanese history and culture should know ninjas were not subject to the samurai code. Not to mention such code was effectively abolished with the Meiji Restoration and thus someone living in the 21st century like Psylocke is not subject to it. So you are wrong no matter how you choose to analyze it.

There was never really an effort to say it applied to everyone. The Meiji Restoration simply removed the glorification of it as an honorable way for a samurai to die and basically treated it like any other suicide. People misconstrue that as meaning it made it available to everyone. It didn't really. It was simply a side effect that by not glorifying it as a samurai ideal, the stigma associated with choosing it as a method of suicide if you were a commoner was removed. That was neither the intent or goal of those that did away with it when they overthrew the Shogun.

Can she also be a descendant of the British Royal Family? Being British doesn't make her nobility and swapping bodes with a random Asian women doesn't make her Japanse nobility ie a samurai. So no, she can't be a samurai if she wants too.
