It was a pretty good one-shot. I never heard of Kid Eternity before or seen him in any other comics so I was interested in finding out what he was all about. Although, what really made me purchase this issue was Lemire's writing and Hamner's artwork. I'm definitely interested in the other issues especially the ones focused on Madame X (huge fan of Madame Xanadu) and Rose & Thorn. I wonder what other characters they'll choose next.

I loved this! Okay, the characterization, and the central mystery itself, we're pretty conventional; but like a lot of Lemire's work that I've read, this was all about using familiar elements to tell a good story, which this was.
The only other time I had read Kid Enternity was in Teen Titans, where his story arc was just... depressing and painful.
I loved the twist at the end! I was thinking that it would make for a cool story if he fell in love with a ghost he brought back or someone, and then I get to the final page and BAM! I really hope they follow up on is.
"Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day."

To anyone not interested in buying this: the one-shots will be worth a lot of money if they end up as a TV show.

I haven't yet read this, but I'm still disappointed that they didn't just bring back the original (not the 1990s version, the 1940s version). (And to me, bringing back recently dead people to solve their murders is nowhere near as interesting as having the panorama of historical (sometimes fictional) characters to choose from, so the new premise doesn't sound all that exciting to me.) I'm assuming the "bald guy" mentioned is the new Mr. Keeper?

Maybe the classic version (whom we haven't seen since pre-Crisis, alas) will be on Earth-Fawcett in Multiversity.

I am intrigued by this whole National Comics set-up. Enjoyed this issue alot, and am looking forward to the Looker book. Not sure if I'll add this to my pull list or not.

I really enjoyed this take on the character. I hope we see more eventually. I also like the idea of using National Comics as basically pilot episodes for potential series. Of course, DC Presents was supposed to work like that too, and sales of that book are in the toilet.

My only complaint about Eternity is the typo where his boss tells him "I hate to think what you're father would say." One of my pet peeves. Doesn't anyone proofread these damn things before they go to print? Pretty amateur.

Which is too bad. That Vandal Savage story was pretty good to me. Gives me hope for the future.

Just read it and enjoyed it much more than I expected. I was thinking of dropping it, since it's out of the new 52 continuity, but if the next issues are that good, I'm keeping it. Hope they reconsider national comics' ties to the new 52. It's pretty easy to put them in the new 52 U. There was even a Deadman reference.

Bought this largely because I've enjoyed Lemire's writing elsewhere, and this was no exception.
I actually liked it more than I expected to.

    It's a one-shot, not an ongoing.

I don't think that's correct. Why would it not be in continuity? It's not one of the New 52, but that doesn't really mean anything. Neither are any of the mini-series.

There's another one two pages later. Freeman says, "Well if the gun is missing, than where did it go?"

Anyway, I liked the issue. It was pretty straightforward and if this had been the first issue of a mini or ongoing, I would definitely be back for the second issue.

However, it did irk me that the police chief (was he the chief?) was extremely callous about telling Chris that one of his fellow employees had died and was waiting for him in the morgue. He must have known. That's more of a minor gripe, though. The only really negative thing I have to say is that it's very disappointing that this was just a one-shot. I want more! I'm skipping the Looker issue this month, but I look forward to the Rose & Thorn one next month.

I posted a quick review of it on my blog

I though it was an OK comic, but a bit ho-hum in the light of what Jeff Lemire's been doing in other titles.

(And the your/you're typo also annoyed me)
