The scenes when Jay come in are funny as hell.

Big fan of SC. Hilton Head, half a dozen lakes, intriguing Civil War draws, alligators. One of our more dangerous/interesting states. You're lucky to live there. Thanks Phil. Hey, I just noticed that we're neighbors. I'm next door in lovely South Carolina.![]()

I love the show. Been watching them all on youtube.

I love the show. I like the aspect of these guys at the shop ripping on each other . Walt as he discussed on an episode has to watch what he buys. He can't go crazy and buy something that will cost the store a lot. So he watches what he can spend on.
Its gonna be interesting to see them add a woman to the mix next year. Smith has said that a woman will be added to the shop and it will be interesting to see what happens there and have her as an outsider around those guys.

Sucks 200 character limit.
The show is not so bad. I love Pawn Stars, so the idea of a show involving great comic finds in the wild is right up my alley. I agree the cast is kind of a depressing bunch, and the episode where they only make $37 dollars on "Zombie Day" kills any sort of comic shop owning dreams, at least for me.
So far though, some of the items coming in are kind of boring. Who really cares about a life-size Chucky doll, an Australian Day of the Dead poster, and a 1991 Godzilla with a glued tail? I want to see more stuff like the Buscema Silver Surfer originals and the box of Silver Age found in Grandma's attic, but I understand they just don't see that kind of stuff very often.
I can't watch it, I've developed this thing where the presence of Kevin Smith drives me into atavistic frenzy.
Sequential Anarchy
Current favorite ongoing series: Fatale, Saga, Judge Dredd, Batman Inc, Batwoman, Daredevil
Part of the appeal is that you feel like you could be sitting there with them having the same geek discussions that they engage in. I'm not bothered by some mistakes. Killing Joke 1975? Just a mistake made by some writer. The Tattoo episode was great.

Grandma's box was filled with Golden age stuff though, wasn't it?* In the episode I watched, the guy had World's Best #1, Superman #11-#16, Detective #38 and All-Star #8, which is notable mostly for the addition of Starman and Doctor Mid-Nite to the JSA's roster (and also for a back-up story which introduces their future secretary, some broad whose name I forget).
Probably a scene carefully orchestrated for the cameras which nevertheless thrilled me tremendously.
*Wonder who'll be the first to make me regret that phrasing?![]()

I'm sure that the producers are giving some of the costumers these "finds". But it 's still cool to see them moon over them in the shop. I believe that Pawnstars is also "set up" the same way with actors being used to bring in items chosen by the producers and writers. It's all entertainment, after all.

One of my guilty pleasures is the show Hollywood Treasures on SyFy, which features the company Profiles in History and their auctions of Hollywood memorabilia, in particular from genre shows. Occasionally it features comic related stuff, and one of the first episode sI saw featured them going to Stan Lee to authenticate some early Marvel memorabilia items (scripts, etc.).
When I first heard about Comic Book Men, I was hoping for a show in the same vein, but more focused on Comic stuff, but I was severely disappointed. I did watch the first season, and there were a few enjoyable moments here and there (I'll have to disagree with Venomous Mask, I thought the episode featuring Jason Mewes was by far the worst of the season), but overall the show was just plain not fun. There enjoyable bits let the sheer joy and love of comics come through, the worst was stuff that was forced and tried to appeal to the lowest common denominator (which is a lot of Kevin Smith's material I know). Thing is, I enjoyed Smith's early stuff, but his later stuff-this show included-just hasn't done it for me. After the first two episodes, I would have the show on while I was doing other things and only pay attention if something caught my attention, but mostly tuning out the dreck they were dishing. I am not sure I will tune in for a second season.
