You know, I think I'm just happy that we're getting a story starring a classic villain who is being treated as a genuine threat. I can totally understand where you guys are coming from with the violence towards children and giving scarecrow an abusive childhood, and normally I would agree that the overuse of those things in comics really bothers me, but in this case it doesn't really.

I'm also relieved to be able to read a story that doesn't threaten to change everything forever, the death or maiming of a beloved character, or the attempt at introducing an awful villain of the month in the most uncreative modern gritty way.

Yeah, I agree. I see it as the "fun" Batman comic, with big-name villains, over-the-top traps, Batman standing around with cops and of course the inevitable Gordon kidnapping. That guy sure gets kidnapped a lot.

Plus, I think little of consequence will happen in this title that will affect the Bat-verse as a whole.

I love this version of the scarecrow. He is really well drawn in this arc. His father is real creepy

Yes he is exclusive. What was a bad idea? He hasn't written the book in over a year I believe. His art is fine. Not surprising it's still one of DC's top sellers.

The art seems slightly rushed in this issue too
It might be the inking as far as the art is concerned. The pencils looked like David's usual stuff to me. The credits don't say who inked the interiors. I'm not sure if David has inking experience, but he may have inked this one for some reason...because Richard Friend isn't credited for the interiors, just the cover.

I think everyone is just getting too impatient. He is a crime novelist by trade and is using long form story telling to begin his arc, give the guy a chance to show you he knows what he is doing. Anyone who read Penguin should know that instantly. He's showing the background of scarecrow to give you a little insight into what twisted this character into acting the way he does. Ironically enough, most people in general take after their parents, so it's not a stretch that a villain would have a villainous father.... To the story itself, I think it is pretty good so far. He's setting up the scarecrow as a major creep.

I do agree that some of the sequences were a little cheesy, but I think he is just getting the hang of using the whole of the batman mythos. I also think this would have been better served with a darker artist, like with Penguin. All in all, a big improvement, and I would challenge everyone to at least give him a chance. We've seen the awesome work he can put out, so hopefully he will bring his A-game back for the end of this arc.

This seemed better than the previous issue but not by much. Also, why introduce a new girlfriend for Bruce if she'll be gone in the near future. She's all ready getting upset with Bruce how soon before she's had enough. Though I could be wrong and she serves to cause trouble for him out of his Batman persona.

way too early for a complain like that since it looks like it will serve for some purpose

If hurwitz is here for a sizable run and he keeps her as a recurring character, I have no complaints at all

Me either, but if she serves no purpose then she's got to go.

It wasn't BAD at all...but the story was kinda hum-drum. I mean, the best moments of the book were without a doubt Bruce with the little girl and the Pianist. The reveal of Scarecrow's past...Hurrwitz could take it in a good direction as the arc goes on, but that seemed VERY on the nose and expected. Like, I would imagine that abuse could definitely play a role into Jonathan's psychosis, but having his father do almost the exact same kind of psychological experiments seems almost lazy.

Yeah I didn't like crane's dad being basically the same person he is. Makes scarecrow less special.

Same with harley now being the same person that joker is. Thankfully it seems no one is reading suicide squad.

I dunno, I still hope they do something with Jai--her being the White Rabbit and having duplicate powers I thought was kinda cool, and she could be a cool addition to the gallery: she could be a good manipulator villain for him now that Ivy seems to be more of an eco-terrorist/anti-hero ATM.
