Default Batman: Year One animated film.

Despite this movie being short, it was damn impressive with a great storyline and awesome animation but it could have been an extra 15-20 minutes longer. Still, at only $5 at Best Buy this week it was an exceptional value so I made sure to grab this movie while it was still cheap and I'm so glad that I did. I still can't believe they let the word "bitch" go on a DC animated movie, lol I really was taken by surprise by it but felt it worked in the situation it was used in. Anyhow, I have to say that this was the most badass I've ever seen Jim Gordon, he was really violent and quite good with his fists in this picture and I don't think I've ever seen him in this light quite before. It was refreshing.

This is most certainly a mature persons Batman film, which is awesome because I see Batman as being dark and not entirely for children of all ages. 2 thumbs up!

I got it with the purchase of the Arkham City GOTY edition. Definitely glad I didn't let my kids watch it. It was interesting and enjoyable but wasn't that great to me. It just didn't feel much like a Batman story to me. Plus it doesn't fit in with other Batman stories since gordon pretty much knows Wayne is Batman.

I did enjoy Gordon giving his partner a beat down.

Well, it was lightly based on Frank Miller's "Year One" story from the 80's and you know how things are with film, they hardly ever follow the story as it happened in the comics. But I absolutely loved it and found it better than any live action Batman flick to ever grace the silver screen, too bad this didn't make it to the theaters itself even though it probably would have tanked because most people think you can't make an animated film nearly as good as you can a live action one. Which is false, of course.

For a Batman starting out story, I much prefer Batman Begins to Batman Year One.

Lightly based? I remember it being practically panel for panel the comic.

It was very close, when I said "lightly based" I meant that it was basically the story that the Year One film was made from, but it wasn't 100% accurate to the comic.

Much to my surprise, I managed to catch this on a flight. I didn't love it--a bit too much of a close adaptation to me (no surprises). But it's not terrible, either. I was very pleased with Bryan Cranston's performance as Gordon, and I'm sure he'd be just as amazing in a live-action portrayal.

I would have loved to see a bit more liberty taken with the script, not because I don't love Year One the comic book (I do), but just for unpredictability's sake.

And, conversely, I would have loved a bit more loyalty toward the gritty art style of the source material. It looked too 'clean' to me.

But probably my biggest beef was the Bruce Wayne/Batman voice actor. Kevin Conroy, Bruce Greenwood, and pretty much any Batman voice actor I've ever heard leave this guy in the dust.

It's pretty much the comic exactly, but that's a very good thing.

^The art in the movie was far better than the art of the comic.

I recall the only things that were different from the comic were extended fights, and that was because the four issues Year One comprises of don't make for enough material to fill out an hour. Other than that, panel for panel, Year One movie is Year One comic.

Perhaps Ironically Batman begins began as an attempt to make a live action version of Batman Year one. It was going to have been directed by Darren Aronofsky and scripted by Frank Miller.

This. A thousand times this. Nolan took Year One and made it a million times better, not to mention that he told us about Bruce's training as well, something we dont see in YO.

Woah there - that's crazy talk.

Batman Year One has some of the finest art ever to grace a comic. The movie doesn't come close.
