Why does Nick Fury, Jr. have his guns hovering in Cap's armpits?

I look forward to seeing the rest of his cast and how he plans to group them. ALso these bigger threats sound great. Some new, some old I hope.

Sounds like BP could very well end up here since Hickman is aware of the lacking diversity.

That's what I'm thinking. And possibly Shang Chi. Maybe for New Avengers?

I have not been a great fan of the Avengers...but I am indeed a great fan of Hickman's writing so...I am there. (I am most excited to see who his final 18 are).

Well, interview definitely had some things I like.
    * Talking about bigger adventures. Hopefully this means they won't be spending all their time eating and trading the same line of pointless dialogue back and forth.

    * Realizing the solo characters have their own books, where they get the big development. Obviously with 18 characters, the book's going to be more than the Big Three, Spider-Man and Wolverine, who all have their own titles, but nice to see this writer realizes he needs to write arcs for the other characters and they can't just be background/plot devices/pointless sacrifices. I'm a little annoyed that the movie success means apparently it's always going to have to have Hulk (who's contributed a grand total of less than a half-dozen issues in the actual comics), Clint (though I guess it's not really Avengers without him anyway) and Tasha (who I like but who isn't as important to the team as, say, Jan or Wanda; much more on par with Carol or Jen or Greer or even Monica, I'd argue).
    * Wish we could get more details of the New Avengers. I'd like to find out what that's going to be about.

Marvell2100, we already know Shang Chi is in it. Not a good start, IMO, but Panther (and Monica Rambeau!) would be nice to see.

    Captain America looks ridiculous.

"When you're a member of Marvel's Avengers, you can't have an "off" day. Earth's Mightiest Heroes take on the biggest threats the Marvel Universe has to offer on a regular basis, so if one of them doesn't have their head in the game, countless people could die and entire planets could be destroyed."

This alone fills me with so much confidence. No more endless dinner scenes it seems. I also liked that he gets that Avengers is about the secondary characters, and not a parade of A-listers. Too bad he still has to deal with impositions of the business execs, such as the movie cast. So far, I'm feeling very postive about Hickman's run. Twice a month, 63 issues leaves us with a less than 3 years run. Not bad.

    Peace

I remain cautiously optimistic. Love Hickman and Opena, not sure I trust editorial to truly let them do their own thing yet...

Oh, and fingers crossed he brings back Simon and Jan!

    I am absolutely hyped!!!

It's like all the complaints except crappy fight scenes may be addressed in one run!

Hickman, you got my money for the first arc, the entire run if it's great!

Glad to see hickman noticed the lack of diversity. A shame Rick missed that memo.

Still we know the first 10. 6 movie then Shang, falcon, spider-women and ms. Marvel. So assuming spidey and Wolvie then 4 of the last 6 would have to be minorities to look good in my book. Gender balance is hard as well.

Wonder what new avengers is? And when they will tell us rosters.

"Twice a month" and a slew of artists...the storytelling consistency would be my only real concern...(I am prepared to drop/forego another Marvel title to accommodate the 3.99 price).

I am really hoping that neither Spiderman nor Wolverine makes it onto his team...given that they are are already so prolific elsewhere and in their own titles...but if anyone can make me tolerate both characters, Hickman can.
