And who was a more appropriate candidate???from what I read nobody came up with a better plan at the time...
She gave her life to save her friends...you don't volunteer, you do what need to be done despite the sacrifice you might have to make...that what's make an heroe...

There's nothing random. She was an attached woman who should have at least consulted with her lifepartner (ha) before making a self-aggrandizing sacrifice like that. Big Jean, saving the day. Never mind the lives she leaves shattered behind her.

Remember that this story took place in the days before Wolverine was retconned as being able to heal from a nuclear missile to the face. With him removed as a candidate for the flight home, and Storm, who might have been able to affect the solar flare, not being able to fly a shuttle, Jean was the only option.

It was either have her fly them home or they all die. Shattered lives can be rebuilt. Stop trolling a perfectly legitimate self-sacrifice story.

that crazy, I don't think they had much time to argue at that point....she though se could save them all was ready to pay the price and done it, better her friend be sad about her demise than all of them been dead, her included....
will you not give your life for the love of your life, if his life was in danger????how long will you think about it??? or will you just rather not do it because you will prefer him dead rather than sad about you giving your life for him???
You hate Jean so much it's completely distort your understanding of the story...do you think Jean did sacrify herself because she though it will make her big and popular?????
