The NFL can do what they like. Football is a different matter and the bottom line is if the American player did that then it needs investigated so that if video replays show that then she can get a retrospective yellow card. Also, looking at the highlights of the gold medal game what the Canadians were saying about the US being a bit tasty looks to be spot on. They're a good side but they seem to like using the elbow just a wee bit too much, so they don't really want to pick up a reputation like Leeds did in the 70's.
we were talking about outside influence on a referee. Point stands.

Actually they do that in cricket because (in terms of an LBW) a player is not out unless one of tthe fielding side appeals to the umpire or the striking batsman chooses to walk.
It could be the clearest LBW you've ever seen but if the batsman stays at his crease and the opposition don't ask the umpire to review then it's not out. It's a bit crazy and quite often I've seen professional umpires make the mistake of raising their finger before the appeal.
Funnily enough a very quiet audible 'Howzat!' is enough, the screaming in some players case isn't necessary.

Holy crap, that 800m was out of this world.I remember running a 49.4 400m at 16 and feeling pain like you wouldn't believe for the last 50 metres. He eased to 49.2 for the opening lap and then runs a second lap at almost the same pace.Appropriately superhuman for this forum. Not a sign of distress on his face.

Technically, all dismissals in cricket require an appeal.
In practice, some are so obvious that the need to do so has become moot, such as bowled or some catches.
The screaming isn't necessary, but a more confident appeal can sometimes make an umpire take the appeal somewhat more seriously and give him cause to consider the decision a little more stringently, but rarely does the strength of the appeal sway the umpire one way or another.

The Canadians are protesting because a player was trying to get a penalty by influencing the ref which may (or may not) have worked. The point you miss is that this is cheating and the Canadians have a point.
As I've said, I've not seen the game but I know the rules and how the game should be played. If the American did that then she was trying to cheat. You don't need to be Roy Keane shouting in a ref's face to try to influence the course of a game/
Aye, I forget that attimes because in most cases the batsman does the decent thing and walks if he knows he's out, especially if it's as obvious as being caught.

Can you give proper examples then. You say picking a fight so I assumed it was relevant. And again every sport has this so then every one is "cheating" so its an even playing field. Therefore its all the same. But pointing out the rules is not cheating (its the opposite) and any ref who is influenced is a bad ref anyway and its not the players fault. I feel like Im repeating myself but whatever.
