Default Is it true Superman has no good stories besides his origin?

What would you say to a person who says Superman has no great stories except his origin.

Sure there are stories like Red Son and All Star Superman but again, they deal with his origin in a massive way whereas a character like Captain America, Batman or Spider-man would not neccessarily need the origin for all their best stories.

There's 'Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow' of course which is awesome and Byrne's run which I think is shamefully understated.

It's simply wrong to say that he has good stories besides his origins, although admittedly a fair few of the good ones are; ie Birthright and For All Seasons.

But Kingdom Come and All-Star are two fan favourite stories and they aren't origins. And don't for a second say All-Star can be classified as an origin story by virtue of the first page, because that's simply garbage.

Other than that, Geoff John's Last Son and Brainiac are good stories. Azzarello's Lex Luthor: Man of Steel and the unfairly dismissed Superman For Tomorrow are two great ones too (although I know MANY will contest my views on For Tomorrow). Darwyn Cooke's underrated Kryptonite is one of my personal favourites.

Though between those stories and Whatever Happened, it doesn't quite dispel the argument that the only good Superman stories are his beginning and end.

Well that's another argument altogether. And one that's probably more valid than saying only his origin stories are good.

I don't agree with it, but I have heard people say that before.

And DC completely ignores and covers this up, mostly because except for Morrison, everything else they do with the character pales in comparison.

Some of my favorite Superman stories ever were obscure one-shots in the 1980s run of DC COMICS PRESENTS.

This one, for example (a DCCP ANNUAL from 1982), gives you *two* Supermen in one package: I think it was the first team-up between the Supermen of Earths-One and -Two (without the Justice League and Justice Society).

Superman used to really get around the Multiverse in DCCP.

No it's not true. Which is why I don't understand why creators need to go over the bloody origin again and again and again.

    Panic In The Sky
    Up, Up, & Away
    The Death of Superman
    The Reign of Supermen
    The Death of Clark Kent
    Brainiac
Superman & The Legion of Super-Heroes
    For All Seasons

All are very good stories. I too am tired of the origin stories. Even non-comic book fans know at least 85% of it already. It's like move on, we don't need to know how Superman came to be the man/hero he is today...all the damn time.

I also am tired of the origin stories! I have been through every one of them since Byrne and just like other people I wanna get AWAY from the beginning and onto his furthering adventures!!
