Marston created Wonder Woman to offer a female hero. He also had some sexual fetishes. So he justified them with Wonder Woman's idea of loving submission confusing the idea with a personal sexual practice. That's been my take on it. I don't think the bondage themes really added to the mythos. Maybe the sales.

Well back in the 40's the readership was much younger. I'm not sure they knew what bondage was. The parents knew! I wonder if they supervised that nickel's purchase!

I liked how the bondage tied into (no pun intended) the philosophy of "loving submission." I've always enjoyed characters when they have beliefs that the rest of society might find alien.

So, in others the amazons in relationship view that there is a dominate and submission role in a relationship? That we're actually be interesting that the amazons when in a relationship will fight to see who the dominate one and who the submission one. I wonder what a dominate and submission role is for amazons on paradise island.

I think assuming those roles is hard to align with the idea of equality. Is the dominate always dominate and the submissive always submissive? And how do you make the decision. I guess it bothers me because the male sex is forbidden on Paradise Island yet they found another way to divide themselves in replacement. Which makes the exclusion of men seem sexist even more.

From what I understood, Marston's whole idea was that women were the superior gender, because of their capacity for love, nurturing, and compassion, and felt that men should learn from that and be under the power of women, through domination and bondage.

To me it would be who get tie up first. I see what your saying. To me there do treat each other as equals. A dominate amazons doesn't mean she I'm charge. A submission doesn't mean she yield to what ever her partner says. I look at it like this that even an amazon was the dominate one . The submission partner will have a say so or reach a agreement with the dominate one. In other words there will be a limited say so if what the dominate can do if the submission disagree. The dominate one will not alway be in charge when her partner disagree with her. When her partner disagree they both most reach an agreement. with each other.
