Ultimate, Carey left "X-Men" because he couldn't handle doing monthly comics and still write novels. "Something had to give, and it was a toss-up between 'X-Men' and 'The Unwritten.'" However, he did say he would love to do a sequel someday to "Age of X."
While it sucks he left Legacy (his runs qualifies as one of my top 5 X-Men runs ever), I more than understand his desire to pursue his own creative work.

When you want to do your "Age of X" sequel, I'll be the first one in line to get it.

He quit X-Men: Legacy?? I thought he was forced off the book...

Ugh, couldn't he have at least explained the Chamber situation first?? I mean, a one or two throwaway line by Dr. Rao would've been fine with me, just SOMETHING.
