They should have a normal Bruce Wayne version of Batman, but only in Justice League films.

I think that after having 5 actors in 8 films portraying Bruce Wayne/Batman going through many physical and emotional struggles, audiences want to see him have a happy ending. Nolan's trilogy alone showed Bruce Wayne's journey from beginning to end. I felt that Nolan could have made 2 great movies between the Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises about Bruce Wayne's career as a fully formed Batman instead of skipping ahead 8 years to a Bruce Wayne past his physical prime, but there was already 7 Batman films before the Dark Knight Rises and Nolan probably felt that the character's journey needed to end before the sequels became more of the same.

There was a Batman film in the 60's, one in the 80's, three in the 90's, two in the 2000's, and now one in the 2010's. If Bruce Wayne co-stars in Justice League movies and stars in Batman movies it'll be too much.

How many movies has James Bond had?

Is his fanbase clamouring for future James Bond?

The movies by Nolan, Schumacher and Burton are all essentially separate characters so it's not like the dramatic possibilities have been exhausted for whoever comes next.

The Dark Knight Rises is grossing less than the Dark Knight was at this point, and it's unlikely to make as much as it's predecessor. It's time to try something different.

James Bond still isn't that different from the character that was portrayed by Sean Connery. Bruce Wayne has gone through a character arc in Nolan's trilogy that's satisfying. I don't think any of the 8 Batman movies are perfect, but Batman can fight and interact with other superheroes in the Justice League movies. They should make more Batman movies with Bruce Wayne as Batman, but they need to give the character a break for a while.

It seems like people think that reboots can be released immediately, but I disagree. The should make some Batman Beyond movies before they reboot the Bruce Wayne version.

Harry Potter ages from a child to a man with his own child through the 8 films, he changes from film to film. Bruce Wayne aged from a child at the beginning of Batman Begins, then became Batman, fought as Batman, then retired in the Dark Knight Rises after helping Gotham as much as he could. Another would just be a step back by having the character trying to protect Gotham again.

There are so many superhero films being released more frequently, that are becoming more ambitious (Avengers, the Dark Knight Rises), I don't know if people will want to see Batman doing the same thing again in Gotham if they feel like they got the complete story from Nolan. I know that there are a lot of Batman stories and villains that could be seen on the big screen, but it may be too similar this soon.

You could argue that TDK got a bump up thanks to Ledger's death and TDKR got a bump down due to Aurora.

You could also argue a movie that showcased one of Batman's least known villains as opposed to his best known villain wouldn't have been as big a draw.

They do need to give the series a rest but spending $$$$ on a movie based in the future with a new and unknown guy as teen Batman is not the best route to take. It's a change that might gladden fans who eat, drink and breathe Batman stories but is likely to confuse the wider public who mostly know the character from TV shows and movies.

If they reboot it by making another Bruce Wayne story, it will probably have much lower budget than the Dark Knight and it will seem less epic. They need to lure people back in to the theaters by making it new and exciting. Batman Beyond is easy to advertise as a Batman movie, and it will seem much more epic since the effects will be an upgrade from the more realistic Nolan films.
