Once more into the fray,
Into the last good fight I'll ever know.
Live and die on this day,
Live and die on this day.
Well, I know all the P5 have been, more or less, portrayed as villains in AvX, but I really have no idea how you draw the conclusion that she’s a bad guy in Avengers #28 from only 4 preview pages here. For me it just looks like that Emma is trying to infuriate Rulk.

In dog days, all we need is Frost.
I like Emma but she was making the guy cut his own throat. I think that's pretty bad. I think it's out of character for Emma. I guess you could argue that it's the Phoenix, but it seems to me that they are trying to push her down the villain road. She is in her right to fight Rulk and even beat him up-- Rulk came there to kill him-- but I think the way they are doing it, they are making Emma look bad.
And again, I like Emma-- and sorry in advance to other fans-- but use Magik, use Colossus, use Cyclops, have them make Rulk try and kill himself. I'm saying this not because I don't love every Emma panel-- but because it feels that they are setting Emma up for the take down.
Emma trying to get Ross to kill himself doesn't surprise me. If she would go so far as to barbecue Clint, she's capable of anything. Which is what's so frightning about the P4. Since we don't know if they still have any humanity left in them. However Scott is still holding on to his.
Can you clarify? I think you said something like that earlier. I just don't know Rulk that well so I don't have a picture of who he is as a character. Emma said his mind was one of the worst she had seen, and that he secretly wanted the death she was giving him. Is that true? But if you don't think this makes Emma looks bad I can take your word for it.
She didn't mean to BBQ Hawkeye. It could be P4 craziness though. It could just be poor characterization. Or it could be as Mikekerrll says... Rulk is scumbag...
Emma has reformed yes, but she's still morally gray and has the capacity to do dirty things when it suits her. The woman once burned down a barn and killed a horse to guilt Firestar into joining her. She may have turned a new leaf and not done anything that horrific since, but she's still capable of doing so. The Phoenix just makes it easier as hosting it is a lot like being drunk. It amplifies your personality and can remove any inhibitions you might have had towards doing certain actions where before common sense and self-control would have otherwise prevented you from doing so.
When was the horse thing? She has morally grey areas in the sense that she is willing to do things other heroes wouldn't do to accomplish her ends, but the ends are most always heroic. Your point about the phoenix power is very well taken, but I still don't really see this as being Emma. I may have an overly rosy view of her-- yes, she can be very harsh to her enemies, but I don't think she's that harsh.
And my other complaint is that with the exception of Namor-- and I'll let Namor fans duke AvX8 out-- I feel that right now Emma's the only one they are really playing this "go crazy thing" up with. We may see some of this with Peter in W&Xmen 14, but that would be a new development I think. Magik is putting people in limbo, overall I say "big deal." Magik is also fine as well. Cyclops is more or less fine. Emma gets run through the mud.
You read about the horse thing here:

This was back when Emma was sort of the anti-Xavier when she recruited young mutants for her academy. She still wanted to be their teacher and guide much like Xavier was; she just had a harsher view on the world. Eventually it all blew up in her face when most of her students were killed, and she admitted that Xavier's way was better. She also stated in Astonishing that while she agrees with Xavier's dream it doesn't always sit well with her by nature as she's never been gung ho about mixing with humans. She just wants to teach mutants. The first issue of Astonishing she scared the daylights out of the kids with her "They will always hate us" stunt.
I like Emma too, and part of the reason is she is different from other X-Men. She's not a Jean Grey, or Storm, or even Rogue who's also a reformed villain. She's officially been a good guy for a long time now, maybe longer than she was a villain, but she's never been a saint. The more questionable part of her nature is still there and thus fair game for the Phoenix.
As for the other Phoenixes:
Namor: Well look what happened to him.
Magik: Yes, she's always had a habit of throwing people into Limbo. But it's still not a good thing. And bringing a piece of Limbo to Earth definitely is not good.
Colossus: He has been quiet (which is typical really), but I think his conversation with Kitty may tip things over.
Scott: Yeah, he seems to be under control for the moment. Blame Moon!Jean I guess. His conversation with her seemed to help him keep a lid on it.

That horse thing was so long ago! On another thread someone had the picture of Thanos being taken away by the police. I wouldn't expect that to be a valid plot point if he shows up in comics again!
But I see what you are saying. I have a rosier view of her, but you make some good points about Emma. I probably disagree a bit more when it comes to your posting about the reaminng Phoenixes, but even then, good ideas.
I think Namor actually got the luckiest-- he can't go any crazier, and he's officially alive! I'm not terribly knowledgeable about Namor, but my guess is that fighting the surface world and killing/threatening to kill people is Namor's MO anyways, so if you like Namor, this could be seen as more Namor awesomeness. And I'm still waiting on the other P3. I'm saying it now-- Cyclops is gonna start putting the cosmic powered boot on anyone who looks at him cross-wise.
