    Personal reasons aside...

I was super excited the second this book was announced. I love Carol Danvers and Kelly Sue seemed to want to portray her in the way I like her best.

This did not disappoint in the slightest. It definitely seems like more of a set-up book than anything... making a statement about who Carol Danvers is now. The last few pages, I thought, in outer space with the hand-written lettering... were especially beautiful, both in how they looked and what they were trying to say.

Skimmed it in the store but I still couldn't come to terms with the art. From what I saw though, the writing is on point.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

The artwork was awesome!!! That said...the mask when she wore a couple times looks funny.

    LOVED IT!

More subtle than I was expecting but beautiful and emotional, Loved the storyline and the art worked great on it. A hook for issue 2 would of been nice, but I was already sold on it months ago so no big deal for me. Great book. Recommending it to my friends now.

The issue and the character felt very personal, which is a welcomed change of pace. I've never liked the character because she seemed rather 1-dimensional and very arrogant and self-righteous. However Kelly Sue D. has pretty much humanised her, and shown her arrogance to, yes, be an annoying trait a times, but remind us that we all have such traits. They're all part of us.

The art was great on this. I've never been a Carol Denvers fan, she always came of as bossy and one-dimensional to me but I'm giving this book a shot (mostly based on the art)

Awesome issue. I hadn't planned on picking this up but I'm glad I did. I love that it's a first issue that didn't just feel like a tease to a drawn-out arc but a issue that felt complete in and of itself while leaving you invested in the character enough to return for #2. Consider me a regular reader from here on out.

Likewise. Didn't read enough to judge the writing though, cos the art put me off. I confess, I'll read a pretty but not-brilliantly written book. But if the art's bad (or, in this case, just a a bit too severe), then it wouldn't matter how well a book is written, it won't be for me. Thus making Captain Marvel the first female solo book published by Marvel, DC (and most of the indies) that I haven't picked up since I started buying comics 20'ish years ago.

And the costume is still awful.

Was a little worried based on previews, pretty much because I wasn't thrilled with the art, but I loved it!

IMO the art improved greatly as the book progressed and I greatly enjoyed the story, particularly how Carol came to claim her new name. I even liked the mask much more than I thought.

    3.5 stars from me!

The art is just not suited for a book like this. Books need a "feel" to it, and the art style does not match the concept very well. The story was fine, but the art just kills it for me.

As an introductory story, it was okay, but there's no hook to make a reader come back. The art was a bit inconsistent, looking muddied in the action scenes, but much nicer in the scenes with Carol, her brother, and Cobb. I'll give it a few more issues to really grab me.

I really enjoyed this. It was my pick of the week. I like Soy's art style (though I can understand why others would not) and KSD's writing was strong and on point, if not a little flawed.

Either way, I'm sold. After Avenging Spider-Man #9 and this issue, I added it to my pull file.

Looooove this issue. Sold on the art, sold on the story sold on the dialogue. I reviewed it with pictures at the link in my signature. Great stuff.

You can always tell a book is plotted well when the ebb and flow makes it enjoyable to turn the page. In some instances you’re turning the page to something you didn’t expect. In a bad way. The writer crafted a great story here cutting from action, to backstory, to the internal conflict of the character nicely.

I loved the writing! But I do agree that it feels like more of a one shot.

I am half and half on the art. It actually fit the non action scenes beautifully IMO. But there is just too much motion for the action scenes.
