I so didn't see the Manchester Gods - Surtur connection coming! I thought the change motiff that the new Gods represented tied in nicely with Loki as an agent of change. But this subsequent tie-in with Doom really spells disaster for Loki. I'm anticipating and dreading the end at the same time, darling little Loki.

PS: Farewell Leah, you shall be sorely missed

    "DOOM"

    Awesome moment

Now I just want to know if this is a literal or figurative Doom. Because I can see Kid Loki being one of Doom's escaped Loki clones, and the only reason he's Loki is because Thor stuffed him full of past memories. That will just be the final nail in the coffin for the poor kid.

Did anyone else notice Lokis reddish orange glowing eyes when he told Hela to leave I wonder if that was a coloring error or are they could be just play up his old god of fire myths then again it could be just foreshadowing for Surtur.

I didn't see this thread because I don't understand why it would be in The Avengers forum, but this is what I was going to post there, so I'll post here instead.

Gillen, Gillen, you're breakin' my heart man.

So Loki regales Daimon with his actions, planting explosives around the power sources of Otherworld and crippling the Old Powers while wearing a V for Vendetta mask. The Old Powers are forced to create a treaty and given representation in a parliament run by the New Power. Loki gains access to the Holy Grail and Hela is able tofinally heal her missing hand, but ...*sob*... Leah disappears as a result in a Gillen-style classic show not tell expression of their feelings for each other.

So that's Leah and Hel-Hound gone and I wonder why I go on living.

Anyway, Loki returns to Asgard and lets out his frustration at the All Mother that he keeps gettnig the job done and getting no respect. Meanwhile the leader of the New Power in Otherworld confers with his ally who (I think) supplied him with some of the war technology they were using in exchange for a God Spore. I can't remember the demon's name but I believe it is the one Loki freed to devour The Serpent's New Asgard. And that's how the issue ends.

Good read as always, and Gillen always manages to make character loss feel meaningful rather than a cheap girlfriend-in-the-fridge thing, but I will miss her character and hope Loki can restore her in some fashion.

No...it's a re-invocation of something Simonson did back in the '80s...for months it was a recurring element in the big braid of stories he had going that we'd get these occasional looks in on Surtur forging his sword, or rallying his troops and the punchline word would be DOOM! Hot contender for most iconic, this one:

This is the second or third time it's been back in this run. And now we know what he was forging that wasn't a sword--those walking cities, which others have noted legs from, in the previewed artwork for "Everything Burns".

Oh, no, I don't think that was a colouring error! There's only so much one can do with words on a page, to convey how outraged he is at that frame.

And so Leah was more or less literally a handmaiden, after all. As suggested a few months back...damn. Will miss her. Very much liked the business of Loki telling off the All-Mother, though! and the final setup for Surtur is good stuff.

Yeah, there was speculation about Leah, from a few issues back. I suspected all along Leah may not have been "real" because she had no real personality and no feelings about anything in particular. She was sentient and gave opinions, but reminded me of a downloaded computer program on legs. Plus she was too much an extension of Hela. It says something about the Hel queen's power that a portion of herself could be a sentient being. But I never get why these powerful gods can't do basic stuff like regenerating flesh, yet they can resurrect and or/manipulate souls, and create artificial living beings. It makes no sense. At least Hela won't walk around with the stupid stump anymore (note to Tyr: no one cares about your one handed war wound brand. Get over it.)

I'm kind of anxious to see what direction Loki will be taken in as an adult. I'm all for the complex/chaos god angle. It could work! And a strong relationship with Thor. Maybe Loki will tell his old self to take a hike. But what's this "truth" hinted about him future solicits? Inquiring minds want to know!

LOOOVE the splash page with Surtur (altho I never knew why he was so much bigger than his brethren!) But dude needs a hobby...he dosen't seem to do much except forge twilight swords and torch everything.

    Yep, caught those eyes too.

Actually, it's only now that the cover made so much sense to me. Sigh. At least she wasn't stuffed in a fridge. But I hope she subconsciously affects Hela.

I immediately start wondering, to what extent her knowledge of Loki's doings might become Hela's knowledge, now, and how that might swing round to bite him at some point.

I did like that Loki decided, since he was in England, blowing stuff up, he may as well go all the way and put on a Guy Fawkes mask. Very appropriate.

    Also, Leah. Damn.

Now that would be something to see as that's the one lingering plotline from Gillen's Thor run that never ended up being brought back up. And that would just be completely depressing though at the same time it might not invalidate what the old Loki was doing with him. But then: "I am Loki, who you must not trust."

Unless he is erased or aged up suddenly as some suspect might happen, though that would be regrettable. I can't think of why he would tell Ikol off as he really has generally been helpful unless it's suddenly revealed he is playing an angle.

    Poor. poor Loki...

I don't feel like Gillen put Leah in a fridge...I felt like he gave her a true grave from which to rest...

And now that PostMaster gave the "clone idea"...It just feels wrong. Would Thor really do such a thing? It would make sense how he ended up in France. And then Loki would have known about Doom's plan, so maybe he helped the clone escape? And which would give Ikol added purpose, I guess.

But really, what a truly horrible idea. And you all must understand I've had a very depressing day anyways, so this all just feels like icing on the cake. Not a bad day, but a very, very depressing day...And poor Loki. What did this little kid ever do to deserve this?

Poor Loki. Girlfriend turns back into a hand.
I'm really gonna miss their rapport. And I still REALLY hope they don't turn Loki back to his adult self.
