Default Is it so wrong to want to read?

Granted, work is not the place for surfing the 'net. But most of us do it and that's not important.

What's bothersome is the preponderance of youtube videos instead of good ol' text and pictures.

I was looking through the SDCC news and was interested in reading about the latest action figures and some of the panels. But on the sites I turn to, most of the information moved from text and pix to youtube videos.
I really don't want to sit through 15 seconds of an Acura commercial and then watch a 20 minute video of amateur cam work showing off the latest Venture Bros figures. I miss reading and looking at pictures.

This is also true of video game information. I'd rather just READ about a game instead of watch a video of it.

    Your preference?

I hate videos on the net, especially in lieu of news articles. The buffering can be like listening to a person stutter.

I'm with you, Spack. I like the videos, don't get me wrong, but I prefer to silence my speakers, so I have to switch to my phone to watch them.

I don't like the videos, either. I'm usually only interested in one thing and if it's text I can search for it.

I have no interest in people's crappy videos. I don't even want videos from people who do columns I read.

Well, well. Looks like we got ourselves a reader.

Yeah, I've never read an Aspen Comic in my life but I still read their "Ten for Ten" article. Gonna be there opening weekend for Dredd. Skipped their CBR TV video.

Text, please. I can read an article in two minutes that takes an actual person ten to spout off. Videos are merely about vanity unless there's something specifically needing moving video (99% of which don't). I don't need someone to read to me because they want their mug on camera.

Yep, me too. I don't have the attention span for a long boring video on most things. I do like movie trailers and short clips of video game footage, though.

I'm a text/pictures person as well. I barely watch videos for anything, the first thing I've seen on youtube in at least six months is the Thomas Jane "Dirty Laundry" video.

I do like videos. They are short and usually pretty descriptive. You can watch them or listen to them (in case you are doing something else simultaneously). Yes, that is true that the written text is usually more detailed and may have an explicit opinion of the author, but still video is a great invention. I would totally watch videos instead of reading the news articles.

Video has a place- "how to" videos on car repair (for example) are really handy.

But for the most part- yeah, just give me the text. I'm not interested in your amateur newscast.
