Batman fights death, and Superman fights the impossible - Grant Morrison
But, there's still a lot we don't know about that version of Brainiac. Where he came from, how he got the list of planets that were going to be destroyed, why he was compelled to save parts of their culture. With the Johns version, we know pretty much everything about him and there's more than just that storyline to draw from. Like with Superman Vs. The Elite and Batman: Under The Red Hood, they can take bits and pieces from other Brainiac stories and make a fuller character.
For Sale: One shrunken Earth city in a bottle. Slight tweezer damage to bridge. As is.

Goodbye León (november 16th, 1993 - june 12th, 2009). You were, are and always will be the best friend I ever had. I will always love you and never forget you. And please, please forgive me.
Thank you for teaching me about love, patience and caring. Rest in Peace, my friend. I hope that wherever it is you are now, you can run and play as much as you want.

It was cartoony though. Compared to Batman the Animated Series which was on at the same time it was very cartoony. If you looking for more of a realistic style I would have chosen a Max Fleisher Superman style over X-Men anyday. Hell Ruby/Spears Superman had a much better animated style then X-Men.
Nothing prevent them from changing stuff. We don't need to know he's from Colu (I mean, appart from hardcore fans, you think the casual viewer cares that Brainiac comes from a planet he never heard about?), all they need to change is the motivation, and that's easy: Brainiac steals samples from other planets before destroying them, because information is more valuable when it's rare (just like the Brainiac from Johns or from the cartoon), and the "list of doomed world" is a list of worlds he is destroying himself to artificially increase their value. I mean, they changed the way Jason came back from the dead, they changed more than half of the Doomsday storyline, they changed how Superman dealt with Kandor in All Star and the ending.
I am just not interested in the Johns Brainiac arc as a DTV: it was nothing more than one big fight started by Superman (who suddenly went after Brainiac for....some reason), without much of a value without the New Krypton stuff that is probably going to be not even included (at best, he will get Kandor back).

It was a homage to Christopher Reeve which was pretty much the whole Johns run was all about. It was a what if the Superman movies had continued as seen through the eyes of the DC Universe.
I hope that they stay as close to Franks art as they can to the point of giving to the Reeve foundation if need be to get his likeness as close as they can.

Must add the one I want to see made the most is The Death of Superman from the 50's.
This would be a amazing story done in the modern world but with Curt Swan's Drawing Style.
By this point the only thing that felt even remotely close to the Donner movies was Superman's face.
All I'm saying is, if they have to adapt a Johns story , I would be much more interested in Last Son. It had a much bigger emotionnal impact, and the action part was better.
As for your Death of the Superman thing, well....haven't read it, but I'm a bit weary of having to watch Superman die in my DTVs. How about the Lex-Or story (come on, it has Lex and Superman in a boxing match, how more awesome can you get?), or "Must There be A Superman"?

Thing is, they haven't actually DONE anything else other than Superman, Batman, and the JLA---except for the GL things and WW. So how do they know nothing else will sell? And does every Superman or Batman DVD sell really well?
I'd be interested to see the sales figures on each DVD---just to see what weight they're putting on sales.
Here man, you're killing me with the fact you never read The Death of Superman..
