I like and dislike the concept. Like because there's a lot of depth to it and story potential, but it's too sad and creepy for my tastes.

What Coke said. Mary Dahl in terms of motivation, etc. is pretty much one joke. It can be a great joke (her Baby Jane-esque obsession with recreating her glory days at all costs, the meta-ish joy of having all those old sitcom players like Alan Young in roles for that story, etc.), but it's ultimately a story that the Law Of Diminishing Returns is just going to make it's punk. She's effectively a rote supervillian in 'Love Is A Croc," and any attempt there to recreate any prior depth in "Baby Doll" was just rather plastic.

Sure she only appeared in two episodes, but keep in mind, Mr. Freeze and Clayface only appeared in one more than that. I mean, can they really be considered one-note villains as well?

Clayface-- regardless of his own inner demons-- is a shape-shifting supercriminal who, as such, could theoretically be spun off idefinitely. Baby Doll however, is Paul Dini's rather specific comment on themes such as misplaced nostalgia, what it feels like to 'peak', etc. It's a somewhat flawed comparison.

What a DUMB villain. The only B:TAS episode that I care not to watch.

But he wasn't. Maybe he was seen as 'one-note' by the creators of the show the same way you see Baby Doll? Hell, he was even effectively killed off at the end of the original series before the revamp.

    Just sayin.'

    Gingold soda, anyone?

I have been thinking about Baby Doll and reading about Elongated Man. Why not marry these ideas?

What if Mary Dahl, like Ralph, is one of the few people who is not allergic to Gingold? She drinks it, or a variant of it, and gains a very limited ability to elongate her body.

Maybe she also gains the ability to "stretch" her mind. She could become more Intelligent and, perhaps, develop some limited (and strange) psionic abilities.

Sadly, playing with her mind like play-doh has left her unbalanced.

    What do you think?
