Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
The art looks only average but presentable & the story continues to look solid, although I'd think some readers would be getting absolutely sick of that water spirit by now.
Pull list:
Adventure Time, Batgirl, Batman & Robin, BOP, Earth 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, He-Man, Katana, Nightwing, Shadowman, Swamp Thing, The Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man, Worlds' Finest
Is McCarthy on a book full time? I really hope he gets another bat-book at some stage, his work is looking really good at the moment.
An unashamed Bloodstone, Captain Britain, Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Bat-villain fanboy.
The art only looks average compared to Williams, who set the bar stratospherically high. I think the art is great. Still, I worry about this book now that Williams will be doing the Sandman stuff. They guy's pace is glacial, so is DC going to have Lobdell and Liedfeld taking over?
"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain" Steven Pinker
I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to be the standard second artist on this book. Given William's drawing pace, there's going to have to be two artists on this book per year. Maybe more while he works on Sandman. McCarthy has mostly been applauded for his work on Batwoman, so I don't imagine they're going to rush to replace him.
Looks beautiful. Love how the narrative style itself has been reflecting Maro's plan (moving pieces into place for the final moment), but Batwoman's probably been doing the same (having pieces of her own move around to help her). It really is similar to Batman vs Dr. Hurt. Whereas Batman (here Batwoman) can rely on allies to do what needs to be done and kind of wing it, Dr. Hurt (here Sune/Maro) spends so much time micro-managing (and denying his "partners" of any volition) that when it comes down to it, he loses. The winner is always the one with friends, not pieces.
Can't wait to see Kate take Maro down.
I expect her to have help from Jacob (or Bette), Abbot/The Werebeasts, Maggie, and/or Chase/The DEO.
That's how comics work!
Love the rogues gallery they're building, but I hope after the next arc, there's a more obvious tonal shift.
I am so pumped to read this! I have been loving this arc and been excited to see how it will come to an end. I know not everyone has been happy with the story structure this time around, but I really like it a lot and find it really easy to follow. If you are familiar with the anime Baccano!, the story structure is very similiar with it will bounce back and forth from character to character over different time periods. However, Baccano is far more complicated with over 15 characters and their stories and 3 or 4 main stories going on, making it much harder to follow. Probably why I can understand everything happening considering this is far more simple to understand.
Like Baccano, I highly recommend that if you are reading this story, that you reread it over again later on. Once you've seen how everything goes in the story and where it ends, following the storyline will be much easier and you'll be able to have a better understanding of it.
Also, artwork is just beautiful. This guy has to take over everytime J.H. Williams III takes a break from drawing for an arc. I want to see more of him! Also, coloring really adds to beauty of this comic. Colorists always seem to not get enough credit for their work.
I am really looking forward to this book. A lot has happened and a lot is going on, probably way too much to wrap up other than the Drown the World plot. We have the DEO, Kate's cousin and dad, and Kate's girlfriend whom she betrays for the DEO. And Batwoman looks like she is ready for it to be done, too, as she looks like she is going to take some people out.
And of course, next up is fanboy paradise, Wonderwoman comes to Gotham.

Yeah I totally agree that McCarthy needs to be on Nightwing. His one issue on the title looked fantastic and was IMO the best issue of that book, the tone fit Nightwing so much better than Barrows or their regular fill-ins.
McCarthy works great on Batwoman but I think they could get away with rotating Batwoman artists on a regular basis (given JH is always on and off himself), whereas Nightwing should have a consistent artist, and McCarthy is the man for that job.
Art looks great, definitely above average. I will be glad for this arc to be wrapped up though.
