Hard to quantify that due to the additional publicity of Lee's death.

The character sheet for Dredd is pretty much "hard but fair."

The thing is that the Law, which he swears to uphold, is anything but fair, and that, occasionaly, is a source of concern for the character.

i LOVED Dredd it had that gritty late 80's early 90's hard R Paul Verhoeven vibe to it. i can definitely see why it bombed. but i also think mediocre advertising and being forced only into 3D also hurt it...ALOT.

Dredd was awesome. Like a Carpenter/Verhoeven hybrid film. Urban was spot on for Dredd. He made him a character you could root for even if he was a bastard.

I think a bit more satire could have been used though. Even something small like someone watching a bizarre reality TV show in one of the apartments or something.

It certainly felt like it here. As DeadXMan said, it was great use of 3D but the lack of 2D screenings must have hurt it.
