Additionally, I might add that while Doom is trying to rule the world in order to make it a utopia, Darkseid seems content with ruination and dishing out despair amongst his nearly infinite number of slaves that would be controlled by the Anti-Life Equation. It just looks like he's not interested in small scale or petty torture like Desaad.

Kirby made the ALE sound like it would be a miserable and traumatizing experience in a few interviews, and that Darkseid wants to control people with that specifically, which would extend to all sentient people, regardless of age or gender. Even though Darkseid was reluctant at the thought of killing young people, that doesn't mean he won't make them miserable, perhaps to the point that they'd find death to be a better alternative.

That being said, I always wondered what would've happened under Kirby's pen if Darkseid finally acquired the ALE, just because it'd be interesting to see if he would've left people alone or forced them to eliminate each other or act as cruel as he and desaad were. I know he wasn't originally a fan of cruelty, but he was uninterested in empathy for anyone that wasn't Orion.

So, there's this local bookstore with a few old comics, I looked through some of the sections and found a few ones that involved Darkseid. Would any of the following have well written Darksid? Was there anything in particular wrong with his personality/appearances in these?
