PedoBear Costumes IRL going too far?

A while back I attended the Phoenix Comicon for the first time, I saw a few great costumes and so very many horrible ones... that cannot be unseen. Towards the end of the day my eyes settled upon PedoBear, he was holding a dish rag and a sign saying "does this smell like chloroform?"

Considering the fact that the character of PedoBear is a bear, who is also a pedophile and not much else, should 'he' be allowed into the convention? can we differentiate between risque costumes and those that are simply in poor taste?

Until he actually gropes someone, it's an "in" joke, from a security standpoint. If he's actually glomping or groping young kids, he's toast. And what you don't know is the convention security team does have discussions about appropriate costumes, or characters. And boots people who go over the lines not met that are listed in the convention program book, or on their website. They go from everything to a "weapons" policy on costume props, to how much clothing is appropriate, and when you're going to get a talking to. No written signs offering "free hugs" is another big one, to cut down on the unwanted touching.

Pedobear, though, is now a staple at cons, ironically enough. And as long as he doesn't get too in character, whatever. I mean, people who dress up as the Joker don't murder people with laughing gas, and they're fine, as well.

Every convention I've been to would have people lining up to be "gassed" by PedoBear. I doubt anybody would not get the joke and complain.

By the by, that ballsiest cosplayer really is. Anyway, yeah, usually teenage girls go, "OMG, PEDOBEAR!" and run up to take a picture of them for the irony factor. You oddly get more positive response like that, and people grinning at the "wrong" joke than people going, "That's... that's just not right." and getting disgusted.


Having worked security for a few cons... the radio traffic discussing costuming is LOL worthy, even when it's serious. Having to describe a guy wearing a thong and a cape with the Zelda triforce shaved into his thick chest hair, carrying only a bottle of lotion and a box of tissues was one of the odd ones I heard at PCC this year.

It's more about taking things out of context and posting the image in response.

For example, StoneGold recently posted that he had to tell a 15 year old girl on twitter that she'd been "licked" (some promotional thing with his job). Someone else would then quote that piece and respond with a pic of PedoBear.
