Default Why doesn't Green Lantern have a family?

Most of the major superheroes have already a family. Not to mention some of them are also married and have children.

Superman has two cousins- Supergirl and Superboy.

Batman has his butler Alfred, four Robins including his real son and three Batgirls.

Captain Marvel has one sister (Mary) and one best friend (Freddy)

Green Arrow has Dinah, Connor Hawke, Roy Harper, Lian and Mia Dearden

Aquaman was married and had one son and has an adopted son Garth.

Wonder Woman has her mother and Donna.

Flash has a wife, one nephew, two grandchildren and two grandnephew/grandniece

So I wonder why Hal Jordan doesn't have a family yet? Green Lantern corps are just his comrades. Carol and Pieface are his friends. He doesn't even have a sidekick.

'Cause families and spouses limit story-telling possibilities. Everyone knows that.

OP, many of your listed characters are no longer around in the current DC continuity.
    - Superboy is a clone and has yet to meet Superman as far as we know at present.
    - There has only been one Batgirl as far as DC has revealed, Barbara Gordon (the entire Batman, Inc thing is just confusing as to where it exists in all of this mess)
    - Connor Hawke and Lian Harper are non-existent now or have yet to be introduced.
    - There has been no sign or mention of Garth
    - There has been no sign or mention of Donna Troy
    - The current Flash is not married to Iris West, there has been no sign of Iris' nephew Wally or any of his attendant characters
    - Captain Marvel (to be called Shazam these days) is only now being re-introduced and nuBilly seems pretty resistant to the whole family concept just now.

Pre-Flashpoint, Hal Jordan had family (a married older brother and his family) which may well still be around although it is doubtful that his nephew (Harold 'Hal' Jordan, named for his uncle) ever became Air-Wave in present continuity.

In the DCnU the middle generation (mostly involving the Teen Titans and similar aged characters) has been gutted by the needs of the 5 year timeline while trying to leave the Batman and Green Lantern lines largely intact ... which doesn't work but so well, IMO. Very few families have survived the transition: Superman still has a cousin, Wonder Woman still has a mother and Batman still has a surrogate family ... but that's about it.

Because nobody is willing to admit they're related to such an obnoxious jerk?

    He has a family.

Also, his cousin Harold Jordan, who was Air-Wave II/Mazer before being shuffled aside during Infinite Crisis.

Comic Rule number one: Main characters can't be great heroes without their parents being dead. And if they actually witness them die, they double their chances of being an even greater hero.

Hal was married once, but gave up his marriage to save Aunt Star Sapphire and everyone forgot that happened. Comic Rule number two: All great heroes need to be single and play the "hit it and quit it" game.

And didn't Hal knock up Power Girl in JLE? It's not like the guy hasn't tried to have kids. Comics just won't let you. Comic rule number three: All great heroes can't be tied down with children. If they do have kids, they have to be raised by someone else and only show up after they have grown up and can be super-heroes and/or sidekicks.

Hal doesn't have his own family because he's screwed up his relationships and as such, that's why he's single. But in terms of partners, he has his three fellow GL's that he's worked with for years. Not to mention long term Lanterns like Kilowog, Arissa and Saalak. Yes, I probably misspelled their names, but you get my point.

Rule One is broken by Blue Beetle.

Rule Two is broken by Aquaman.

Rule Three is broken by Animal Man.

I said great heroes, not all heroes.

Is Aquaman still married to Mera? New world new rules.

Obviously, he doesn't have a family because he can't stay out of deep space. The ties all the Green Lanterns have to earth are very superficial. We know they come home but we only ever see them leaving home not spending any time there. No room for a family if the character doesn't have earthbound adventures.

What about the other Earth Lanterns? I know Kyle's mom is dead as a doornail, but what about Guy and John?
