    Default Any Jon Sable fans?

I bought the series (and related issues like Maggie ths Cat, Shamans Tears, etc) awhile back and just got to them last night. I read the first six issues of Jon Sable and found them very fun to read. Are the two minis that IDW published the last that Sable was seen or are there plans for his return?

I'm also a fan of Jon Sable; I have the whole original series, though I haven't yet picked up the second series, where Grell turned the character over to other creators. It's solid Grell fun from end to end and a real precursor to his work on Green Arrow.

I believe Sable will be returning in more minis to come.

I've never read a Jon Sable comic but I happened upon a copy of the prose novel a few years ago and read that. How does it compare with the comics?

Loved Sable back in the days. Grell's art was so good, he could tell the stories with a minimum of words.

It's been quite a while since those IDW minis came out, so I assumed they were done.

I had ( or have ?) the first 10 issues or so. Nice book.

I'm a huge Grell fan. And Sable is some of the best. Should have ended the book when he left though.

I wish I liked Grell's artwork more because both Jon Sable and Warlord seem like things I might have been interested in otherwise. But I've never been able to get over my distaste for his style.

Got the first 20 issues or so (maybe a gap here and there); my comic book store suddenly had the bargain bin filled with First Comics a year or so ago. Really enjoyed the series, but I never got an answer why Grell found it necessary to give Sable some type of mask.

i own the series but never read it. i will get around to it sometime in the next 10 years. I had kind of expected it to be 80's hitman cheese, all black gloves and dark sunglasses, and the word "Freelance" as a sub-title added to this theory, which is probably why its always been on the back burner since i acquired it a year or two ago.

I loved this series and have a full set.

My one warning would be skip the Sable series by Marv Wolfman. Grell himself ignored everything that happened in these issues when he returned to the character.

I have the first 40 issues of the first series and the series from IDW, Image and Acclaim/Windjammer. The first series is great. The mini-series are good, definitely worth reading. The plan is to get the rest of the series, including the Marv Wolfman issues.

Never heard of a prose novel.

Yea his art style is different. I like it though. It looks crips and light.

Ahh too late. I bought them as well but I got them from the bargain bin so it's OK.

Bar Sinister was from Acclaim and Shaman's Tears and Maggie the Cat were from Image right? I bought them as well. Looking forward to reading them.

The prose novel is a re-telling of issues 1 & 3-6, IIRC, with some new material worked in. I'm a big fan of the series, and I enjoyed the novel too - but it was difficult for me to judge it as a novel, given my familiarity with the original material. I ended up noticing the differences too much.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the Wolfman issues were from when the short-lived Sable TV show was airing, and First wanted a tie-in comic which more closely mirrored the show. Grell, by that point, had moved back to DC to do Green Arrow.

I didn't even realize IDW had done a second mini... that one slipped right by me. Guess I have something to go looking for now.

This was close to my favourite comic at the time, IIRC I would read this first when my stack from Mile High arrived. One of the first non-superhero series I tried out, and I just fell in love with the whole thing. Grell was, and IMHO still is, one of the best, and this is my favourite of his works.
